Space Rangers 2

  • Official web page: Space Rangers 2
  • Publisher: 1C Company
  • Developer: Elemental Games
  • Genre: RTS/TurnBased/Space
  • Release date: August 1st 2005
  • Story/Description:
    Quote:

    ABOUT SPACE RANGERS

Humanity has been dreaming of the stars from its very beginnings. In their dreams, humans soar in spaceships, discover new worlds, and come into contact with other civilizations. Standards in this genre are set by such games as Elite, Star Control and Home World.

"Space Rangers" opens a new era in space adventure. Now you can forget about stages, missions, and passing the game on a piece of paper. Events in the game occur “for real” and are not just triggered by a date, or other event, following a fixed script.

We offer you a whole universe. It is a coherent and live world in which each character really exists. Even leaving players’ field of vision, other ships and planets continue their own adventures, living their own lives as long as the game lasts.

All captains of the ships are real, and have their own plans and purposes. Computer intelligence’s main goal is to survive at any cost. They will get money by trade, or possibly bribery and extortion; upgrade obsolete equipment and repair broken items; they will attempt to flee from the battlefield if they think the enemy is too strong. All this happens all the time. Pirates look for easy targets to milk for money or cargo, transports are obsessed with making profits, military fleet will protect its star system from enemies. The most intelligent and versatile characters are rangers, free pilots whose primary task is to help the military in stopping the invasion of new unknown enemies, Klissans. Any ranger you meet in the game could be a hero, or possibly a rascal who has become a ranger for easy money.

You have the chance become one of the adventuring Rangers, and it is possible that it is you who will, in the end, save the Galaxy. Every living thing in the world is in grave danger!

  • Multiplayer: NO
  • System requirements:
    Quote:

    Operating System Windows 98/Me/2000/XP
    Processor Pentium-2 450 MHz
    RAM 128 Mb
    Hard Disk Space 800 Mb
Video Card 800*600, High Colour (16-bit)
    DVD Drive Required
    Controls Mouse + Keyboard

  • Protection: Starforce

Looks pretty sweet. Made by some russian group I believe. Probably wont be cracked, but ive heard that its kinda like Pirates! except it is set in space, and much more deep...

actually thats Space Rangers 1, space rangers 2 can be found here: different specs (not much higher)
http://www.excalibur-publishing.com/space.htm

actually a lot higher if you want to play the battles.

[edit] This appears to be released, as a clone, not tagged by any group. I'll let you know if it works when I get it.

I"ve gotten this but run into a problem. When mounting the first CD to install, the setup.exe just errors, and I'm not sure why. Trying to manually start it doesn't help.

Space Rangers 1 was a nice little action science fiction game, played that quite a bit.

I hope a working version of space rangers 2 will come out at some point.

Alcohol clone like I mentioned in my first post. I've found a way to get it working however:
The game is in russian.
There is rumoured (on a site I saw a message to the effect) that there is an english dat file that will change all the text to english. I"ve messasge to the person to see if I can get ahold of it.

Things to keep in mind: game is starforce (starforce nightmare beat it)
it looks really well done. The intro movie is quite nice and the screens and such look good. From all I've heard it plays really well.

If you poke around you should be able to find it, I am of course not going to link to it, but I've seen it in a couple places.

Just another note: The game is too detailed to play if you don't know russian. There are messages you have to respond to with several choies. without knowing what they are saying, its not going to be effective. For all you know you're navigating a help menu, not a world galactic treaty.

I'm still waiting to hear back on the english dat file, I'll keep you updated, if I get anything. If someone knows russian and wants to write a loose guide to some of the buttons that might help play Smile

mrn I've heard that one doesn't work for some reason (not sure why) but if it contains alcohol clone files, then it should be fine.

@monello yes I could have swore I saw english screens of the game as well. That means the file does exist, we just need to find it Smile I think when the file is added the option to change the language in game should exist.

@mrn, I got it to work using starforce nightmare... I had to disable a couple of things twice, then it decided to work. I didn't need to change the read permission in the registry for the virtual drives though.
I believe it worked with daemon tools

good news: I've been given a file reputed to be the english dat file.

Better news:I've managed to edit it so that english is a selectable language

Bad news:whenever I enable it, it reloads and crashes to desktop.

Review sites seem to show screens of Space Rangers 2 in English, but I have yet to see it for sale or avialable anywhere. As someone said on the official forums there was fan talk about making a new dat file to make an english language, which seems to indicate there isn't one. Its a bit of a mystery as to whats going on.

Maybe this explains it:

Having the exact same problem using either alcohol 120% or daemon tools.
Have you figured out what caused this?

edit:
ok, apparantly you can just copy all the files from the cd1 and cd2 folder to 1 new folder anywhere on your pc and it should work that way.
Problem is, the game will probably still be in Russian Sad

if anyone is willing to send the eng.dat file to fillem@gmail.com that would be awesome!!

Also, are there separate audio files for the english version as well?
If so, and you have them and know what they are could you mail those to the same address?

Thanks in advance!!!

why?
It's not like I'm asking for a crack so I can play a *gasp* game I downloaded?
I'm asking for a file so I can modify a game I have in my possession.

If this is against the rules I'll edit/remove the offending post.

setup.exe error depends, in these cases, on the support of foreign languages.
Russian language use cirillic charachters, u must install tfirst the support for this language then you can use an application called ''apploc'' (applocate) exclusively for this problem.

it is, your asking for a file which is part of a proprietary software package, which costs money. Unless the developer or publisher says otherwise, it's illegal to share it. I'm sorry but thats how it is.

anyone gotten the eng.dat file working?

I added the eng.dat file, and changed cfg.txt, didn't work, added it to install.txt aswell and it does start, but crashes immediatly, tried overwriting rus.dat with eng.dat, also crashes.

The only other thing I can imagine is starting to patch it, one patch at a time and see if it'll start like that, anyone tried that?

Space rangers 2 can be bought at my local gameshop, and it's the english version. I wonder why there isn't any clones available from that version. It's a dvd version, not a 2 cd version.

I got the russian clone working easily, but I haven't tried the eng.dat file yet.

As of right now I can't find any evidence that this is part of a proprietary package or not.
The developer makes no mention of an english release and all game sites say it hasn't been released yet.
The eng.dat file could have been constructed by someone else for all we know.

I have received reports of at least 3 people on another forum getting this working with the 1.3 patch, the eng.dat and starforce nightmare. I've attempted to replicate the steps, but with no success, I'm waiting for a PM from them with more detailed information.
