Quote: | New Might & Magic® game to be powered by Source™ Engine from Valve
SAN FRANCISCO - AUGUST 4, 2005 - Today Ubisoft, one of the world's largest video game publishers, announces the development of Dark Messiah™ of Might & Magic®, a new first-person action game for the PC, powered by an enhanced version of the Source™ Engine, the award-winning game technology Valve created to power Half-Life®2.
Developed by Arkane Studios, the team behind the critically acclaimed Arx Fatalis game, Dark Messiah of Might & Magic® puts players in a first-person perspective, allowing them to immerse themselves in the legendary Might and Magic® universe as never before. It is also the world's first fantasy action game to feature a complete first-person combat system. It takes full advantage of the Source™ Engine's exceptional technological enhancements in areas such as character animation, advanced AI, real-world physics and shader-based rendering.
Ubisoft acquired the Might and Magic® brand in 2003 and Dark Messiah of Might & Magic® is the second title Ubisoft will be launching as it restores this famed franchise to glory. Dark Messiah of Might & Magic® is scheduled for a summer 2006 release and will be shown for the first time at the Games Convention in Germany on August 17, 2005. |

Says nothing about Steam.
The Source engine can be used without being integrated into Steam (as in Vampire: Bloodlines for example).

I liked all the previous M&M games, so this is really good news. I hope they'll stick to the same elements as the predecessors, and will only improve stuff. Shame the rls is only next year.

Check the trailers indeed. I can't wait to play this game. Sword fighting in FPS that looks to be actually exciting. Wow, I'm excited.
EDIT: Use www.gametrailers.com

Too bad they went for the lousy Source engine which can olnly handle very small zones. I hated the loading every 5-6 minutes in HL2! It totaly destroyed what could've been an excellent and immersive game. I really hope they've modified the engine to unrecognition, but i doubt it.

Thew new trailers from the GC are amazing. I'm really getting excited about this game. I like how did they did the fire magic, and ice...it's really new and innovative. And the combination of great physics the battles look really gorgeous.

The devs, who have made Arx Fatalis, have been making DM M&M. And, Valve's Source engine is so capable. So, i think this will be a great game. Keep your eyes peeled.Try Arx Fatalis. It is really a good game. When, it was released, it was considered as a sequal to Ultima Underworld.
