I wasn't sure whether to post this here or in the movies section, so I posted it here because it's targeted more at the gamer demographic anyway. If you haven't seen the most recent trailer, I suggest you check it out.

I'm not expecting a fantastic and wonderful peice of film making, but I am expecting some gore and some Doom. It's rated R, which was the first bit of good news I saw. I also noticed something interesting. Their using the FPS view in much of the shooting. That is something I've never seen before. I don't know how I quite like it. I really hope it doesn't start a trend and we see hacky movies entitled 'Deus Ex' or god forbid 'daikatana'. Anyway, thoughts, opinions?

Yeah, I didn't really know what to think of the FPS view either, whether I like it or not. I guess it's cool because it's original, but ill have to wait and see the movie to judge. Some of the scenes actually look like a game, like the pinky demon scene. It looks good so far, except for the Rock being in the movie....they really fucked up on that one. He looks nothing like the doom guy, and theres so much more better actors that could have played the part..Bruce Willis always comes to mind when I see the doom guy.

Yeah the FPS thing doesn't look real good to me. If you're going to do weird stuff like that, you're better off using B actors and releasing it quietly. Its never going to garner huge appeal and wasting money on putting the Rock on it is going to hurt in the end. Anyone who was going to watch it would watch it no matter who's in it, and its unlikely that the Rock is going to draw any new people in (or very few)

I for one would much rather have a film based off of Deus Ex than Doom. That game ranks in my Top 5
HOWEVER, like you said, Hollywood doesn't know (and will never know), the first thing about gaming. Thus, the likelihood of an even halfway decent movie based off a game is highly unlikely. It would be nice, but these are directors and actors, not gamers
I for one believe that in order to make a successful film based off a game, you must have played it extensivley (in order to get a feel for it and experience it firsthand).
My prediction: C- , but who knows.

I definately don't see it being higher than a 60% on a site like rottentomatoes, but hell, it could be fun.

Wow...what are you guys smoking? That FPS perspective might actually save this movie from being "just another zombie flick". Sure it's kinda gimmicky, but it's also pretty unique and fresh take. Plus it pays HUGE hommage to the franchise. To me, it almost seems like I'm actually there, much like I was in the game.
FWIW I think Carmack and ID had their hands all over this production, and I almost wager they did all the cgi. Look at Pinky!! I had like a mini orgasm or something lol! I hope those caco-demons are in (the flying tomatos lol)
I'm skeptical, and I don't really expect alot, but that trailer has me all giddy. This might actually be alot of fun!!
i can has computar?!

I was thinking the same thing actually, that Carmack's team did a lot of the CGI work. I don't share the same level of enthusiasm however on the FPS perspective, depends on how it's all put together.

This is one might be okay, they seemed to have put more effort into it than usual for a video game movie and theres some okay people behind it, so its a maybe. Not expecting too much though.

It is gimmicky and totally pointless.
You don't just make a fresh perspective for the sake of it being a fresh perspective. You need some quality behind it.

Haha, gimmick or not, it looked cool and well made in my opinion. It's also something new for a change.

I heard he was gonna be master chief in the new halo movie but that was quite some time ago and I guess could have just been a rumour!
