I have a question.
Go to the site listed and do the free bandwidth test

BandwidthPlace - Speed Test
http://www.bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/

Is this accurate or can u check somehow? or anyone else have any other sites like this that allow u to do atleast one free speed test? cuz here are my results

Speed
4.2 megabits per second

Communications 4.2 megabits per second
Storage 514.6 kilobytes per second
1MB file download 2 seconds
Subjective rating Awesome

My shit should be way fuckin higher/faster and if this is my service, I have to call and bitch cuz its not what im paying for......

What ISP are you using? Rogers? Cogeco?

I'm using Cogeco and get anywhere from 3.7mbits to 5.1mbits. I mean Broadband Cable in Canada is supposed to cap at 7mbit right now, and thats like, small area services...

Also, that site is VERY good. It's extremely reliable, and the place I use for all my bandwidth tests.

Also

http://www.broadbandreports.com/stest

is a very good testing site.

PS. Change the title to have something to do with bandwidth

True, how do i change the title of the msg?

Rogers Extreme...should be like 5.5mbs, thats what it was when I originally signed up...they better not have downgraded and not told me...cuz I had my connection with rogers before they had rogers extreme and u had to like inquire and ask specifically for the service, it used to be double the price it is now...but now, its the highest service they offer...I need to find another Isp..u say 7mb is the cap? Well, then I need to find an ISP that has a 7mb line Smile i hate slow internet, i want to get as far away from dial up as I can....i can still remember the days trying to play rainbow 6 or something with a dial up connection *shutters*...I cant wait for about 5 years from now, i think were gunna be up to gigabit (hopefully tera) connections. U can prolly get a giga line now, but it'd cost u a couple grand a month...t3's go for around $900 i think

U know Cogeco, Shaw and that other one are all basically Rogers...as rogers owns the rights to the cable infrastructure in ontario as i recall...just like the phone companies...its all basically bell as bell owns the telecommunication infrastructure, their lines, just i guess the more of an addition u make to the infrastructure, cheaper the rates of the service - which means cheaper rates for the consumer - i could be wrong, im just guessing in a way, i recall reading shit about the rogers thing tho...and that monopoly thing Bell was involved in, but i dunno if that had anything to do with it

That is partly a myth. Though a major company owns something, doesn't mean they control the service, that is why Cogeco standard actually is equal to rogers extreme. Anyway, You're getting about where you should. If you read carefully, it says 'Up to' 5.5mbits im sure. This doesn't take into account distance from the server you're connecting to, current internet traffic, current network traffic and such. You're getting a very good speed.

You could try http://speedtest.cogeco.net/ as well. That'd be a more local server.

2005-09-30 01:42:43 EST: 3612 / 584
Your download speed : 3698690 bps, or 3612 kbps.
A 451.5 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 598086 bps, or 584 kbps

Is my stats from there currently.

Yeah but still...I dunno, I guess i just want something better? does telus or some phone company offer some kinda t1 business line? something like 7mb Smile ?
I used to be with telus when they had this wicked service, basically same as my current one, for really cheap...but they discontinued it for some reason, prolly cause it was an awesome deal...like $35 bucks a month compared to my....fuck...I dunno what i even pay per month come to think of it...gotta check that shit it out Laughing

EDIT - I just checked. Rogers Extreme is a 6Mb down and 800kb up line....

Cogeco is the like.. 6th highest rated cable provider in the world of something, rogers is 10th or so. Eastlink is rated 5th, its the highest Canadian, but only services the East Coast.

Cogeco has a 10mbit line you can get for $70CDN a month.

but is the preformance worth it?
cause usually when I use other areas of the internet besides the www, i max my line out at about 5.8mbs/sec
But i own the highspeed modem, not rented so it wont cost that much, same protcol and shit..I wonder if i'd get a discount, cuz most monthly fee's include rental of modem, but when u own the modem, they reduce it by up to 20-30%

It cost just as much as 10mbit or any adsl, live in a cheaper place. In us dollars about $30 a month, 100mbit both ways is like $45. Not expencive fot sweden.
And in sweden we got tons of providers, im on local city net so can choose between 8-9 or so from 3mbit-100mbit both ways. And its common here with 100mbit or atleast 10mbit+.
On tptest, a swedish tester http://www.tptest.se/lista_artiklar.asp?lngCategoryId=1307 , agaisnt 1gbit (yes both ways, schools have access to it and students) servers i get about 22mbit up and 27 down.

naw, thats just the service backbone...do the bandwidth test or call ur service provider

like Im on the best service my Isp offers, 6.0mb down and 800mb up...but its on a 100mb backbone or whatever its calleds...u prolly have 3-4.0mb down and 600Kb-800Kb up
100MB down and up would cost like...atleast a grand a month...and I dont know if u can even get one of those to be honest with u...u can get 100mb shells, i dunno if u can get an actual 100mbit up/down dedicated line...that would cost sooooo much

I got 30mb up and 30mb down, according to test, provider and dc++.
No 100mb wouldnt cost that much, we got well developed broadband here.

BBB is a big broadband provider in sweden, here you have price on 100mb up and down http://www.bredbandsbolaget.se/portal/PRIVAT_BREDBAND_LAN_BREDBAND%2B100 .
In top there it says "100Mbit/s in both ways for only 595kr/month" and thats about 80 USdollars a month.
Im on local city net wich costs me 150kr a month to be on + a fee to my internet provider for 150kr wich is 300kr (about 40 USdollars a month).
If you look here http://www.bredband2.com/Default.aspx?__app=BB2&__view=kund.ascx&cid=30c9d716-b0d8-4572-9b0d-4397592373c4 you can see on top "Broadband from 95kr in Växjö" i live in växjö. If you look down a bit under where it says "Vårt LAN erbjudande" you can se 100mbit/s for 295kr/month + the fee on 150 thats about 450kr a month for 100mbit both ways. Thats about 60 USdolalrs a month for 100mbit both ways.

Sweden is a bit ahead of most countrys when it comes to internet connection so we got speeds up to 1gbit both ways on schools like chalmers in gothenburg but mostly its 10mbit both ways. Hope it clarify it.
