Unicube developers (Dean Foster: Lead programmer/game design, Sonny Meek: Artist/programmer/game design, Ben Ridge: Audio/composer) are looking for funding on kickstarter for their ambitious post apocalyptic bomb shelter simulator, Sheltered, where you have to manage the sanctity of your family in an underground bunker against the ravages of a hostile nuclear wasteland overground environment.
There's still not a real survival game out there that deals with a post nuclear wasteland, is there? I'd love such a game to be honest but so many devs focus on zombie stuff instead. Its similar but the approach would be a lot different since these worlds would have different obstacles to overcome. Fallout 3 and NV kinda did some of it but I'd prefer a bigger focus on survival and exploration, about looting ancient places, crafting items to survive. A mix of Minecraft and Fallout.
This game is already very limited by using Atari 2600 era graphics which is a shame. I'd want 3D for a game like this anyway. Think STALKER but open world.
The first news is that we’re doubling the pixel count for the game and, from early impressions; it’s going to look glorious. It’s a heck of a lot of work to implement this, but the result will be that your survival experience will be even more beautiful than you expected. We can’t wait to show you the difference it makes in the new year!
An example of how having more pixels is going to effect the definition of characters!
With help from Team17 graphics department, we'll be able to implement more realistic and better visuals all around. An example of what the shelter can look like as of next year (please note this is still in the old resolution, and the final version will look even better than this!)

Bring out your partners.
We’ve been spending lots of time with Team17 lately and it’s been hugely beneficial. These guys have an entire development team, and they’ve opened it up to us – including designers and graphics experts. The biggest value they’re bringing to the project though is experience, and being around their teams is teaching us both new skills by osmosis. In fact, we’re both moving home altogether to be closer to their development studio in the UK so that the game can benefit more from the relationship. That’s a big change for us, but we know it will make the game all the better for when you guys get your hands on it!
Bring out your pre-alpha.
Seriously. Where is it?
Up to yet, we’ve estimated December 2014 as the delivery time for the pre-alpha. December is here, and the pre-alpha is not ready. Due to unfortunate circumstances, we're no longer able to use Game Maker as our development engine. We're now building the game from (nearly) the ground up using Unity. This is an unfortunate blip, and there's very good reasons for the change.
Due to this, we’re now estimating that pre-alpha backers will be able to get their hands on the first playable version of the game in February 2015. We know that you’re crazy-eager to subject yourself to the irradiated wastelands of Sheltered, and we know that this news may disappoint. With the recent developments listed in this update, several areas of the game code are being re-written and the pre-alpha simply isn’t in a fit state to be enjoyed right now. In 2 months, it will be, and we can’t wait to bring you in and work with you to make it even better.
bought it on steam, played it I think theres a bit too much micromanagement and your *family* are all whiney shites, but its early access, the atmosphere is good and the constant feeling that you aren't too far from death is good, even when someone gets food poisoning (ewwww)
when there is no more room in hell, the D34D will walk the earth
It really needs to change the water system, it's too damn hard to get water and almost everything you need uses it, and it doesn't matter if you are going to take a drink or take a shower, it will spend the same amount of water (1 unit).
Also the toilet needs to change a bit, why do you need water to wash it out? just dump everything on the damn desert.
Food system need to have a more simple way to do it, one family died and i harvested his body () and after everybody got food poisoning (i couldn't choose what food they were going to eat).
And i could go on about the changes this game needs, but for a alpha and 1st version of the early access it's ok.
The atmosphere is great and the expedition system works
Sheltered is a deep and emotional survival management game. You take on the role of protecting four family members who, after a global apocalypse, have found their way to a deserted shelter.
Sheltered is coming to Steam, PS4 and Xbox One on March 15th published by Team17
