Well, I was fed up with stores that wouldn't sell me stogies because I didn't look 18, and the insane prices they charged ($6-8 a pack? come on...) so I decided to buy some loose tobacco and roll my own. After getting some (maybe 1/6 oz) from a friend, I decided to buy my own. I looked around a bit, and finally found a store that sold the stuff I wanted. They had a pretty limited selection (Captain Black and some no-name brands), so I decided to get a baggie of Cap'n B. $4 for an ounce and a half seemed reasonable, and I'd heard it was pretty good, so I got the bag. Came home, rolled a stogie and lit up. Nothing happened. Then I realized I wasn't lighting it properly and corrected my technique. 2 minutes and I was in heaven - most cigars don't get me this well. The stuff I bought - Captain Black Lane Limited (white package) is great... heavenly smell, nice big pieces (not like the stringy, dry stuff my bud gave me) and a nice aroma. If you want to save some dough and know how to roll (I learned in 2 days), I'd recommend this stuff over anything else. It's a bit pricy - the stuff my bud gave me was 4oz for $5, but it's really the best I've tried, and that's pretty good. Hell, my self-rolled stogies would wipe the floor with most of the commercially available crap I'd had the misfortune of trying.

Any favorites among you? Texture/aroma/dryness and brand for self-rolling? Post 'em here.

'Amber Leaf' here as it's the cheapest and doesn't stink like 'Golden Virginia' and 'Old Hoborn'..... mind 'Captain Black' sounds nice but i haven't seen it here in the UK

I looked up "gormless" in the dictionary, it said "without gorm" .... so i looked up "gorm" but it wasn't there ????
