Hi I just bought a new DVDRW drive. I want to burn data into DVDs (not for my dvd player). I want to burn into DVDs because they can hold more than regular CD-Rs.

I want to know should I buy DVD-Rs or DVD+Rs?

-Thank you

It really doesn't matter, well if ya want to view something you created on a DVD player, you might have to check what format your dvd player likes. But if your backing up random data for your PC, it really dosn't matter. Its just some DVD players prefer one media over another!

Atleast you have an option cause my player only takes DVD-R, I have not had any problem though! Cause my xbox likes DVD-R Very Happy

I've heard that dvd-r is slightly more compatible... but really if you're just using it for your computer, go by price and QUALITY ... quality being the most important thing.

Don't cheap out on media... that's really the only rule you need to follow.

I buy dvd name BENQ and i buy DVD's to burn i could not burn it ..

all Free DVD's come with it i could burn it but else i could not burn , BenQ CDs that's come with the DVD 1 ROM and Else Rewrites .. i burn them ..

The DVDs i get from the shop i could not burn it .. don't know why .. even i update the firmware of the DVD

also i think the CD copy even faster and CDs is too cheap and much faster for the speed of DVD
when a CD damage you say ok .. i have backup of it , only 700 M ..

but when a DVD damaged .. you could imagine ..

Maybe it's +r and -r proplem ..

What is the best DVD RW Device ?

LG
BenQ
ACER
Plextor
NEC
Lite-On
Pioneer ...
Else other ?

I've never ever heard of a problem with a Pioneer burner, even after several hundred burns.

Pioneer FTW! Very Happy

DVD regin - is parting world into region so you canplay on your DVD-mech only DVD-medium with the same region - this is use by all DVD-Video. that you buy.

So if you buy DVD at Africa you'r not able to play-it at US or Europe or at Japanis or at Australia... without region-free mechanic.

Some software do that or you should look for threads bout you'r mechanic

LOL - realy looks like -+ problem, or it should be a speed problem if your DVD's are for faster writing that you mechanic could perform you'r unable to burn them.

Yea pioneer roxx, but is quite expensive
LG is goooood : LG GSA-4167B can burn +RW -RW and even DVD-ROM, and is dual layer. speeds:
48 x CD-R, 32 x CD-RW, 16 x DVD+R, 16 x DVD-R, 6 x DVD+R9, 4 x DVD-R9, 8 x DVD+RW, 6 x DVD-RW, 5 x DVD-RAM

rhat mechanic roxxx and is cheap

Just try to avoid any A-open,Acer,Benq.
LG too can be good but has more broken ones so try to find NEC 3540 or new it very stable & extremly cheap, about Plextor i think now they takin too much for it's name, sure back in days it was supreme but now things became more equal,so u actualy buying NAME not some ultra-mega burner
sure if u got enough cash go for it.

The next gen is already being developed, called HVD (Holographic Versatile Disc) and can hold up to 3.9 TERABYTES(!)
Should be out around 2010.
