... are you actually read it or leave it in the box?

When i buy a game, i actually read it in the car, at red lights... Sure i'm sometime getting honked at...

And for the rest of the manual I wasn't able to read well... i reserve it for when i'm on the toilet... What a great bathroom reading...

What about you?

PS: Well i suppose that i'm not the only one to buy games here... Smile

It depends on the game. Like Baldurs Gate I always read them both for the fun and for the info. Reading the Half-Life 1 manual is a classic, has read it so many times I almost know it inside out.

The neverwinter nights manual I read too... It is all up to the game.

yea me too, i sometimes forget to check if i have any toilet paper left Wink

i keep mine in the box after reading it once. if i read it more than once it's probably because a)im in trouble b)the game isn't addicting enough Razz

i never read manuals... manuals are there for when you get stuck Very Happy

some are exceptions though, if they are well written (quake is a classic read), or have "lots of purdy pictures" or provide backstory (alice)

How can you people read while you're on the shitter? Does it really take that long for you guys to squeeze one out? Razz

Anyway, I read them during install. Or, well, I browse them. I only ever read them if I've got trouble with something. Most games these days are pretty straight forward, and those who aren't often have shitty manuals, like X3.

The only manuals worth reading are manuals for simulations. Space/flight etc. Because they are the ones containing information. Who needs to read an FPS-, RTS- or RPG-manual? You know those pretty much instantly. "Oh you press I for inventory, Oh you use the mousewheel to cycle weapons, Oh you produce infantry by pressing the infantrybutton in the interface and they run out of the Barracks."

Also these days most games come with pretty complete turorials. But as i said simulators most of the times require a manual. And manuals you read on the bus, flight or in the bed or bathroom Wink

Most games are way too simplistic for manuals these days.

I agree on the simulator games tho. Alot of the time you'll be flippin through the pages to find something out.

I dont read manuals for game basics, the backgroundstory or artwork (if there is any) always compel me to read though.
Some manuals are really well produced, like the GTA SA manual which is presented as a city guide complete with fake advertisements, or the Homeworld manual with backgroundstories on all the ships.

if the game is crap then your manual got a new destination. --> anual hehe

i rarely read the manuals but i remember when i was a kid and had a new Nintendo game i loved to read them manuals. it's like you get into the game before playing it. learn something about this world which you are going to enter.
know about the story of every villain and every hero, where are they from, where are you going to take them.
i reckon that game manuals were generally better in earlier days. with some exceptions of course. innit?
when i had my sega drive 16bit(back in 95) i used to read the manuals of my games but now sadly they like all over my apartment lol

I teleported home one night
With Ron and Sid and Meg.
Ron stole Meggie's heart away
And i got Sidneys leg.

You just make me remember about the Star Tropic manual of the NES. You needed to put lemon juice on a page to see a secret code... That was great Razz
