Same here, not sure if its the protection or not. I have tried several different setups to avoid the error with no luck. My Specs are AMD 3500, 1 gig Corsair 3200, x800xt.
I also ran the demo fine.

u basically have the same setup as me (same gfx card and same amount of mem - well, mines 256mb) just ur processor is faster..I have a 2gz or a 2.5ghz p intel (can never remember how fast it is )
and the game runs perfectly smooth on all settings set to medium
Dont let the game auto-detect ur settings. i let it do it and it had most of the effects and shit set to high and I could barely move my mouse around...

Thanks, I tried that before I posted, Im at my wits end at whats causing it. Ive done things to my box I've never done for any other game. The part thats getting me most is I can jack up all the settings and run the test and I average 50fps and it looks smooth. I get the "out of memory message" when I get to a cutscene. I'm going to wait till the game comes out and see what the deal is then. |
Oh, the cutscene's give u the error?
go into the options and i think its the "computer". U can change the quality of the cutscenes to bascially nil. Try putting all cutscene related options to minimum
I betcha that will solve the problem. especially if u can run the game on high settings...the cutscenes are prolly maxed out too...and reallly, u dont need awesome graphics for cutscenes...they are usually better looking than the game anyway

Give a look there :

u'll see that a lot of people (including me) have problems to run FEAR. Personnaly, i don't have OUT OF MEMORY pb but the game freezes at random places and no way to return to windows (alt+f4, ctrl+alt+de useless...). And i'm sure it is not an overcloking problem (i've lowered the frequencies of my CPU 3800+ and gpu 7800 gtx below the functional spec). And they run perfectly Doom3 or HL2 with all gfx to max @1600x1200...
Let's just hope that they'll deliver us a patch at the release date

hmmm, what OS are u running?
Do u have latest drivers for grx card?
Are there errors in ur memory? - use a program like Check It! Diagnostics that is included in Norton Sys Works 2005
do u have 2 different kinds of memory?
Are u running any background applications? Such as kazaa, other p2p software, msn, irc etc etc
is ur sys tray loaded up with tons of shit that u dont use and dont need? exit all but essential programs from sys tray (u know, where the clock is on the right hand side of screen)
do u have any type of virii on your comp? adware/virus's/spyware etc
Do u have any Windows errors? invalid active X controls can fuck up mem allocation - get a program like Norton Windoctor which is also included in Norton SysWorks 05
Have u defraged ur hd is the recent past? if not do it after u make sure ur disk is free of errors and shit
Have u ran a Chkdisk (google it)? if not, do u now - use the 5 option one (it'll explain the dos commands and shit - google it)
If uve done all that, and ur computer is in close to perfect order, and ur still having that problem...i dunno...unless ur using incaptiable mem or mixed and match mem...do u have say all ddr ram? or all of any other type? or do u have a combination? are they all the same brand...
Thats basically the check list i go through when a game or app doesnt work for me and it works for alot of other ppl. Seems to get me by for the most part...sf sometimes fucks me over tho in the sense that i just dont know how to get some games going, same as alot of ppl. U know, u do everything in the nfo, come up with ur own shit, ask around and it still doesnt work...happens occasionally.
Also, turn down hardware accelleration, that may help (google it).

Had sort of this stuff yesterday. Started the game and it would run ok for some time then slowly starting to lag and POP out to DT and "Out of Memory" I switched off som apps that where running in the background and it was fine, now I dont know what you guys are running there but maybe its worth a try, to see if you can kill some stuff and just test. I was running Window Blinds and Object Dock, turned them off and game runs super smoth at all set to max
P4 3 Ghz
NV 6800U
2GRam
2 Raptors in Raid
SB2
Etc....

Ok Guys, I got it working now. Thanks for your suggestions. The 2 things I did to stop the error was set my virtual memory on both my hard drives. I had one for the os and games and the other for storage. I had increased the vm on my game drive yesterday and still got the error. After increasing it on my storage drive(this is where I have the image of fear) I could play much longer.I dont know why this had an effect, but I had seen a post on another forum that increasing vm on your non-os drive increases performance.
The second thing that killed the error for me was dumping everything in my startup that I didnt need. I went into msconfig and turned everything off that I didnt need to play the game. I have played for a solid hour with all the eye candy turned back on without the out of memory message. The gunfights are violent and beautiful. I am finally enjoying the game now.
I suggest using the tweak guide to any of you guys who are still getting the error, Its at www.tweakguides.com

I posted in another thread about this and seems if u run windowblinds you may need to unload it and the out of memory box will not happen.
