OK, PC Game Arena forum is screwed, to many n00bs, just look at that Quake 4 thread, almost every single user in that thread has less than 10 posts and whole thread is just crazy and full of requesting and P2P talk :/

So i was wondering why don't you shut down forum registrations for some time, there seems to be a lot of jerks and requesters signing up lately..

Just a thought...

i'll leave it closed for now. all we got there is three pages of rumors, insults and download talk. and all of that is what we really do not need more of here. christ, 3 pages for a nonscene release that is doubtfully real.

Its an interesting problem, there are also many things to think about here. Now, before you read on please note I am FAR from against "newbies" I try my best to help and make them feel welcomed, please don't assume my comments are based on a "I H8 TEH N00B" attitude.

Question: How many new users have begun to really contribute? Its been a long times since I have seen new users start at the forum and truely try to form a bond with the community. Sure some of them have hit 100 in post count, but a whole lot of those comments have been sitting in one forum section mainly based around blasting about a paticular subject - CS Fanboys, DOOM3 Fanboys etc.. (this is not to say some havent been good, nice and great community members, but lets just think ratio's 1:9348508349580938509834095809839058)

Answer: Maybe introducing a newbie lock into the newbie forum, first posts are only allowed to be made there, give an intro and a bit about themselves before they are let loose on the other forums. This would eliminate threads like the Quake4 Mirror thread where a first poster asked if the torrent link was real - This wouldnt solve the problem, but it would keep the other forums clear and limit issues to one area.

A SIN BIN. A forum to "demote" users too should they spam, ask bad questions or anything else. Keep this forum away from an specific topic and allow everyone access, but those people who shouldnt be allowed to post in other sections could take out they're rage in here. It keeps the forum open, allows discussion and keeps things clean. - Maybe a solution/other method rather than a temp ban - good for newbies who dont yet understand the forum, a seccond chance almost.

Im sure I could think off more, but those will do for now.

haha, please dont be offended Grees, as I said my post isnt an "ANTI NEW PEOPLE" post, simply a way of controling the huge influx of annoying new users. I think anything we can do to weed out the bad and keep the good will only help new users relax here and be welcomed into the community quicker.

It has gotten to the stage where most "regualrs" see someone with under 50 posts and simply assume they're only here to ask stupid questions. Thats unfair on the poster if they have a genuine problem which is not breaking any rules. We need to find a way to change this attitude, and the only way I can see of doing that is to be less layed back on who can make it to the populated sections of the forums Smile!

I really like your idea with the newbie-lock-forum [sYn]. I think it would really help with getting rid of allot of the first-post-requesters in the other forums.

If you want to go so far, i suggest we create a REP-BAR (reputation bar). Its score would depend on other peoples' votes for that person while the vote would also be weight by how reputable the person that voted is.

I think thats a great idea, I just menationed it myself in the General Forum thread around the same issue. I think it would help both the regulars and a new users to know who they can trust and talk to on the forum, it might also cut down on the flaming.

Ill look forward to seeing something like that implimented Smile

because as soon as they post, someone with 1k + posts comes along and starts shouting and balling at them that they have posted int he wrong section or that they are thick as fuck

etc....

Too many leeties on this forum now, its starting to feel more like VCDqualitys forums.

I agree the newbies get a hard time, I do think 90% of them deserve to be screamed at (not saying it is the correct thing to do, which is why I rarely do it, but they deserve to be Razz) and the other 10% rarely become regular posters, no doubt because of the harsh atmosphere. I do belive respect bars would help though, at least then a new user could see

"Ah this guy is flaming me cause he is an ass hole, yet the next person who posted has good rep and I should simply ignore the ass"

Or at least something like that. I don't think the forum has a "leetie" issue, just a huge group of pissed off users getting annoyed at the huge number of people requesting.

Thats because those fuckin morons dont bother reading the rules and ask where to download, why the link to download doesnt work, start threads on game just because the retard wants to be "poetic" (quake 4) and other shit like that..or like mr. starforcefan
who got finally ban since 85% of his post was dumb comments and flamming. We should get more "nazi" mod in here and make an "ethnic cleansing" on those noobs right away....or put an IQ test on registration..that way only the smarts noobs will go through.

10 post or less + breaking rules = perm ban...the last 2 weeks were horrible and its always the same shit every god damn time a big game is released

Why not close down the forum registration completely? Or at least for a test period of say.. a month.
In that time a system as mentioned above could be implemented. After that the forum can be reopened.

Personally I have no problem with closing forum registration completely, that way almost all noob post are history... just a thought
