I noticed after installing quake 4 that when it started up the game for the first time. It asked for the serial number again. When I entered the one that was in the Deviance NFO It said wrong one Please check your cd. It did say valid when I was installing it originally. So I am not sure what I did wrong so any help wouldl be appreciated.

You should firstly read the hundereds of threads which already answer this questions.

Then maybe the NFO you say you already read that states "block quake4.exe from the internet"

But to make it a little easier, let me help you out:

add this in the end of your host file in X:\\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc:

127.0.0.1 q4master.idsoftware.com
127.0.0.1 idnet.ua-corp.com

Or use the Public Server Patch.
