since both are happily cheating and I'm not biased.... I don't know yet. The best bang/$ ratio in the upper mid-range category will make the race.

have you seen how big the 6800 is!?!? im glad ati has actually worked on small size while including great proficieny. i have a 4400 right now and ill probably buy an x800 just because i dont want a huge power sucking thing in my pc.

I'd go for ATI just because its not a power sucker, cause ya know its just as fast & great image quality. so i'd stick with ATI if I was buying but I'm not!

Not gonna buy any of those for my next card. Gonna wait for ATi's PCI express cards.

I'm holding out for the PCI Express cards. Probably wont upgrade till Sep-Oct this year but due to the superb performance I've had from my Radeon 9700 Pro for the last few years I will most definatly be going for the ATI Radeon x800 (or what ever is out when I upgrade).

bad thing about pci express is that not all of us will have the bus for it so we would need to upgrade more than just the video card

between the nvidia GT 6800 vs the ati X800 PRO, i think the GT is the better deal. you're getting 16pipes and PS3.0; next generation technology. and both cards are going for the same price $399.

I got my X800XT PE a couple of days ago and I am loving it. So ATI all the way for me although I do not believe the 6800Ultra to be a bad purchase. There is power in that card too. Playing my games in 1600*1200 with AA and AF on my 22inch screen is a dream come true:)

If I could afford a new one, I would buy the nvidia one

I haven't been all that satisfied with my Radeon 9600XT
incompatibilities, small problems, GAY drivers...
But then again, the equivalent on vnidia sucked just as much but both of these card are outstanding! Only deciding factor should be the price... Some might argue that the 6800 is power hungry... but hey so am I! Jk
I think we should all have good power supplys anyway..
Just check which ever has the best price
But beware of all those gay millions of editions xt pe ultra gt pro whatever
be sure of what you buy.

interesting... i use to be the biggest nvidia fan boy, but since ATI is from canada, and they seem to do more with less, i will be looking at buying a X800 XT specially since i get em for 50% off

I love my 9800XT, it performs amazingly with everything, even Doom 3. So i'll probably stick with ATI, although I used to be an nvidia owner.
It's just that the 6800GT seems more easily overclocked then the X800XT.

The difference is very small between those cards if you look at the benchmarks. From what I saw the Nvidia 6800 ultra owned in Doom 3 (OpenGL) and the X800XT owned in Farcry (direct3d). On the other hand Ati are improving their OpenGL part together with the other part of their drivers so I think that problem is getting fixed The Nvidia card is also very power hungry and takes up two slots so I wouldn't choose it.

Im running an x800 now, its not too shabby but doesnt hold much over my old 9800xt. Certainly not going to buy a new card for a while, at least until the full on 16x PCI-E cards hit the public domain.

HArd one but i got th 6800U thats because the are "future safe" and will make full use of features in future games, ati is still built on "old" architecture and nvidia is not so!

6800 GT or X800 Pro, i would go with the 6800 GT, as mentioned above 16 pipelines, PS 3.0, als the 6800 GT has much better clocking capabilities than the X800 pro, unless it's the VIVO version but i hear that one is quite rare. 6800 GT can easily be clocked to Ultra and far over the Ultra, so 6800 for me.
