OK, so I have the game bought and paid for. For a while, connecting was fine. I'd click on a server, it went straight to the awaiting connection box, wait about 2 or 3 seconds and then bang, I'm in. But now, almost every time I click to join a server it goes to the awaiting connection box momentarily, then it goes blank, then a script box appears similar to the one in Q3, then it goes to the loading game/initialising menu screen, then the awaiting connection screen again, and THEN it connects. Sometimes it goes back and forth even more before connecting. So I don't have a problem connecting, I just don't understand why it's now going through all this rigmarole when it didn't before. I even did a fresh install having saved my configs and files but still does it even with default config.

Any ideas? Lol, it never did this with the clonecd file.

I have come to the conclusion that the script box is a result of punkbuster trying to update itself. This doesn't happen all the time to me. If I join a different server, depending on their settings, I get kicked back out to the script box for updating. Maybe your older files before your install was actually updated so therefore no script box.

Well jaguar, it's a good point. Howver this happens to me even connecting to non pb servers. At least, the ingame browser says they're non pb, ( you know, depending on if that little blue pb icon is in front of the server name or not). In fact now this script box business has gotten even worse. It's time for another install I think. Rolling Eyes There is no pbweb.exe in my pb folder that I can manually update. I guess that's because it's all automatic now. I think I may join the punkbuster forum just to see if they know what it is and if it's pb related as you're saying. Worth a shot because this is driving me nuts.

Ya I dont think theres a EXE for PB. Its just a bunch of htm and dll files. I didnt install PB when installing quake but later on just copied the pb directory from the DVD to my HD as an install.

One thing to note is when I play on a non-pb server, I get these msgs from PB client time to time. So maybe PB stil does something even when you're playing on non-pb. I guess you can also join the planetquake forum, they have some good info there as well.

I noticed that too, pb messages such as ' received pb master information blah blah' on non pb servers too. Weird.
I downloaded pbweb.exe just now, it went through the checking for updates process and then said unrecognised game, press any key to quit.
I posted at punkbusted and am awaiting a reply. I might well try planetquake later. Cheers.
edit: oh, I think I'm already a member at planetquake come to think of it. So yea, I'll ask Razz
