All the people in my college when I tell them I dl stuff with bittorent they laugh and tell me how IRC is so much faster and better. I downloaded mIRC like 3 years ago and couldn't figure it out. Is it better?

Irc stands for Internet Relay Chat, mIrc is a client. And its the same as BT - anyone who thinks they are "l33t" because they know a few slash commands, is a poser and U should laugh right back at them, seriously

Ahh good old mirc. From the days of old (ie 56k modems) where the most fun could be had from playing wav files on each others computers. How I don't miss those days.
Really impress your friends by downloading from the usenet or otherwise known as newsgroups. Faster, easier once you've figured out nzb files and you can laugh at all your friends for waiting in queues for days at a time only to be disconnected.

i deleted all the posts, you two should both know better..
anyway, about mirc and bittorent, they are bot hlow level ways of getting warez really... torrents are over simplified as in u getthe torrent, set and leave it, speeds might suck but its easy...
mirc could be ALOT faster if you know the right channels and servers but then again as jenni said alot of headaches with disconnects and getting kicked after waiting 19 hours for a download... i say stick to bittorents whats a day or two more... its free no?

<someguy> Stop typing so fast, this is a chat-room and not tetris, goddamnit!!!!

IRC is full of 40-year-olds pretending to be girls and preteens who packet each other with their elite botnets. No good comes out of that mess, only stupid drama.

I miss using IRC sometimes. Then I open the client, enter a room, then close the client. IRC is dead and your friends are retards. See jennis post, get usenet.

I miss it sometimes... The Thrill after been searching of a file for countless of hours and when you finally want to download you get placed in a queue and most wait countless of hours more again and when you start you get 3 kb/s
ahh the dyas |
well its what i use but you have to be smart searching and have to realize its only for the newest things. i tried explaining several mates how it works but they always complain that they cant get it (cause they cant find the right servers etc..)

I agree. While in school my uni had a shitload of their own usenet groups -- stuff about classes, buy and sell, apartment rentals, etc.
Not to mention I had a problem with statistics once and got a page long answer from some professor in the USA.
Most computer applications have their own group too where you can get good advice.

Seriously dude, sooooo many people use them its unreal. Check out google groups if you don't belive, as they are newsgroups !! Although google made them webbased too, its the same idea ! I've used them a number of times myself, its the best place to get REAL answers from people who actually have a clue (other than by asking me )..
On Topic FYI: I agree with everyone else, and ignore your friends, downloading is not cool or clever, no matter how you do it ! |
why does no-one understand my jokes . if i dont put a smiley with it they dont get it and if i do put a smiley with it its the wrong one so its even worse

Yea..IRC is lame, and for some reason everyone that uses it thinks there special or something. Ive been a usenet junkie for a long time, and the amount of information you can get from very smart people is amazing. Get a quick tutorial and you should be up in no time. Most of the info about binary files you dont really need to know, Ie how Uencoding and Yencoding works etc. All you need to know is how to read and download post bodies, the rest your browser software will handle for ya.
