Half-Life 2: Lost Coast Available Now
October 27, 2005, 4:10 pm · Alfred Reynolds

Half-Life 2: Lost Coast is now available for play for all Half-Life 2 owners.

Half-Life 2: Lost Coast, a single-player level custom-created to showcase High-Dynamic Range lighting (HDR) in the Source engine, is available now to all owners of HL2. As a technology showcase, Half-Life 2: Lost Coast's system requirements are very high. During installation, Steam will prompt you if your system does not meet the recommended configuration. We hope you enjoy it.

Did a search hope it's not a dupe. If so delete and pretend it never happened. Smile

318Mb. Available now. At that size don't expect more than a level or two.

No, Lost Coast is a 330MB or so download. Took me about 50 minutes even on my shitty 1mbit connection.

And here it is on my system, excuse the shite JPG compression:

Here's the PC reccomendation for HL2LC before you download your game from Steam, CPU: 2.2Ghz, RAM: 1GB, VC: DirectX 9 capatible.

BTW, why the hell does it say HL2LC HDR demo?

If you hate it, ignore it.

It probably says almost 3gb because you don't have HL2 installed.

Am I the only person who thinks HDR is overrated? It simply looks as if someone increased the bright button to max on their moniter. I didnt like how HDR looked on AOE III. The game looks cleaner and nicer without HDR. Meh! HDR to me is not such a big deal. My opinion of course Razz

I think it is overrated. It looks beautiful, but it just doesn't like realistic since it isn't that bright in real life, unless you're in Egypt or something. The only game that looked good with HDR was Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, since it just enhanced the reflections and such, and didn't just turn the whole screen white Razz

I think you're missing the point on what HDR is for. Not that bright? Try going into the sun when you've been in a dark room and then say it's not that bright. Never been asleep and someone walks in and switches on the lights.

So what did you guys think?

Quite an enjoyable distraction, if only for the eyecandy. It was also original the way you have to sabotage their mortar cannon, although i'm guessing a few people will get stuck on that point for a while.

Just use logic people. Smile

Speaking from my experience, it isn't that bright. Granted it is very bright and a shock to the eyes going from extreme dark to extreme sunlight, but this "white-out" when I go outside in an HDR enabled game is a little extreme. Especially in some games where it isn't even that sunny out, or you are under a shaded cover.

here are some PROPER lost coast pics using these settings

this engine is damn good but all the commentary highlighted for me was how much work had to be done and done again! I bet it was a very boring task for every1 involved and I don't blame them for it being so short. The AI though is still poor and deffo needs working on Sad

if the link goes down some1 tell me and i'll upload them again.

Yeah, you really notice how poor the AI is after playing FEAR.

no it was always really poor its just on this it seems as if it was turned it off altogether and they couldn't hit me. FEAR AI is hardly amazing if you watched it you'd see set routines as well as predictable reactions.

Well it's the best we got at the moment. I was impressed with it.
