FFS! that's the stick that broke the camel back!
fucking starforce is shoving their nose every hole, 90% of the games recently were protected by starforce and because of that only 10% of who tried to activate them actually sucseed
we need some working crack for starforce.. and fast. and what you brought here with sfcure is no crack at all, the fact that i need to disconnect my CD reader cables in order to play is horrofying , because i use CD's a lot, specially for backup.
and even that.. only 10% of us know what is SLAVE or PRIMARY SLAVE. well.. i don't know, i don't know if i got "SSCI" drive or "IDE" drive. i once tried to disable one of the primrary slaves and resulted in blue screen and after i restarted i noticed speed like
486 even less until i reactivated it
daemon tools was supposed to be that working crack.. but .. it got delayed in 14 days. and let me guess.. The Movies ! will also be out in starforce protection.. so i need to wait another week to the game i waited aobut a year.. it's nothing but.. i got some important test on the 15.11 and i wanted to have some fun before it.

Some people are able to play SFcure games. And that is good - the piracy will decline, some noobs will actually buy games, there will be more good games and the elite will play them for free Very Happy

People are lazy too. Some are so lazy that they don't even bother to read the nfo, screaming then for a serial in some DC hub's mainchat. A quick couple hours of google search and everybody should know how to get a SF game working. If that's too hard, then by the game. Too bad the money will go more to the publisher and not to the actual developer.

I can understand people whining about this starforce shite
but the reason its there is to stop ----PIRACY----

The games are just to fucking expensive, if they droped the price then more people would be able to afford and buy the Games...
Not only that but the starforce drivers (to what i have read) mess up systems,,,, but not happened to me personaly........

Someone else said on this forum that been able to dl the games at least give you time to try out the games and if they were affordable you would go out and buy the ones you liked....

anyway ill just wait for Daemon Tools 4 comes out CANT WAIT

35 gig of starforce games on my drive allready.......................

I don't like disconnecting my ide cable either, but I fear that it will be the only way to get this release working. If you don't unplug the cd you will keep geting message "Please insert disc into another drive" even if you use SF nightmare, but when you unplug it sais "Unable to identify disc located in drive".

My problem is that ive decided not to support software using starforce in any way. I dont wanna spend my money on a game thats released with it, and i wont even install that shit on my 'puter.
With the increased numbers of SF protected games these days, it cuts me away from many good games *cries*

But the only language the publishers understands are the one spoken by the wallet.

No.. It doesn't hang. I did the same thing, but when it finishes checking it just sais the disc can't be identified. I think there are 2 sets of this release, on wich includes the tools and one without them. Going to try and another site to get it from. Just seems so strange, some ppl get the game running without any fuzz and some do everything and the game still won't run. All I can think of is that there is a copy of this release wich isn't working.. But what do know.

That even happens in the retail version! This is due to the random shit that is called Starforce.

Does anyone know of a forum wich discusses problems with sfcure?
From what I can tell, sfcure doesn't do shit to starforce on my computer. Isn't it supposed to block SF?

as i posted in the other forum:
I got it working without much trouble... from a post I made elsewhere...

woah, that wasn't hard to get it running!?

ok heres what *I* did and it worked like a charm. NO SFNIGHTMARE INVOLVED (!!!) [or well, maybe, depends if it survives reboots or not]

*AT ANY STEP REMOVE THE DATA CABLE FROM YOUR DVD BURNER* (i have just one, a plextor burner)

Patch X3 to 1.2
Remove all starforce crap using their removal tool, reboot since it asks.
Come back, install sfcure "0.3" (i.e. run the setup, so it installs the service), then reboot.
Once you're back:
a) get rid of daemon tools (just its virtual drives and exit it if its running. i did not uninstall it). UNSURE if this was necessary but this was necessary sinec I used d-tools to install it from "G" drive and I wanted that free for...
b) use alcohol 120% latest WITH RPMS EMULATION ON mounting the image

To play the game, start the sfcure service (!start) and then run it! EDIT: Of course the game will reinstall starforce at this point, and may even ask for a reboot. Let it do so, after the reboot start the sfcure service, and run the game!

I did at some point in my trials run sfnightmare but I have NOT run it since my last reboot and guess what, x3 loads!

Now I'm most likely still going to buy it, but this will let me try it out in the meantime. I went to the main menu and OMG it looked laggy but we'll see...

YIKES! Lag is a kind word... P4 2.4Ghz, 1Gig Ram, Radeon 9700. Imho its unplayable at the moment. Sigh.

EDIT: Final note: Like someone else said, the game will launch properly... like 1 in 2 times or something. Sometimes the checking disc prompt will hang. In that case I actually kill protect.exe then X3.exe and wait until all processes calm down (cpu stops being pegged) then just try again. It goes through eventually.

-- nforce people, i'd love to know if you think sfnightmare does permament changes (and thus it IS needed) or if its not needed, because i reboot and all i do is sfcure then run the game!

if it involves plugging out the CD cables, as you said it does. it's useless
i have only 1 cd-reader/burner in my computer.. thereby i need to disconect it? ... than i could already run the game without your help. the only thing i don't want to do is disconnect the cables from the CD

I even did the toughest installation, still won't work.
1. Modified boot.ini, /noexecute=optin to /execute=optin (read somewhere that this is needed on some AMD64 machines)
2. Removed all old SF files.
3. Rebooted
3. Unpluged DVD-reader
4. Installed SFcure_x64 since I have AMD64
5. Rebooted
6. Mounted ISO with D-tools (RPMS on)
7. Installed
8. Launched SFcure (!start.bat)
9. Launched game (Had to reboot to update SF drivers)
10. Launched SFcure (!start.bat) again
11. Launched SFnightmare (disable ch1, ch2, cd, ata, node. Read somewhere that if you have your discs on s-ata you'd have to disable ata aswell).
12. Launched game (Got stuck on checking disc, later Failed to identify the disc in the drive. Insert a licensed disc)

Now probably someone is going to say "why din't you do like the NFO instructions". I've tried that, and I've tried about 7 other ways to install, still won't work. Reason must be SFcure won't work proprely on my computer, anyone know why? or how to fix this?

I DIN'T GIVE UP!
Told everyone that I did, but I decided WTF i've tried 10 diffrent instructions, why not try 11. =P
Here is what I did, step by step from clean installation. (removed alcohol and d-tools)

1. !!Apparently important!! Install Alcohol 120% !!latest version!! Select "Expert install" Don't install scsi driver!
2. Reboot
3. Edit boot.ini, change the line /noexecute=optin to /execute=optin. Then install SFcure (I used SFcure_x64 since I have an AMD64)
4. Reboot
5. Open alcohol, turn on all emulations, especially RMPS
6. Mount X3 and install
7. Execute game to update starforce drivers and reboot
8. Start SF nightmare. Disable node, disable CD, disable node, disable 'for me sec. master' (place where you have your CD/DVD set to), disable ATA (if you are using a serial ATA harddrive)
9. Run SFcure !Start.bat
10. Start the game and open a bottle of champagne!

If you still can't start the game, try to disable ch1 and ch2 aswell.

OR

1.Install game via DT or Alcohol
2. Manually disable IDE drives
3. Start SFcure
4. Disable CD and Disable node in SFN
5. Play game

Oh, leave mounted in DT or Alcohol...either of which work fine.

if you disable S-ATA and your boot drive is S-ATA, your windows just freezes and crashes... (i tried that)

Strange, didn't happen for me. I use a S-ATA drive as my boot drive. Infact I have to disable ATA to be able to play. Tho my computer freezes sometimes when I try to enable ATA. If you have an S-ATA disc I'm pretty sure you have to figure out a way to use the disable ATA option, otherwise you'll won't be able to start the game. Try to disable ch1, ch2, node and cd before you disable ATA.

edit: Make sure you have the ISO on C: .. Since the disable ATA option disables all your drives except your main boot drive.

i will do it easier from my point of view : i will use an empty ide drive, and install a new windows xp Sp2. only to test X3/starforce

i don't want to damage my system just for a nice but laggy game Smile

and i will come back here to relate the results of this test.
