Anyone got a VR Headset like that in the pic?
Is this compatible to PC and PC Games?
I think it would be rather cool to look down on your settlers in AoE III and just draw a frame around them with your hand and move them that way. Or hide behind a tree in CoD2, then pull out your rifle, aim , fire - boom! Being right in the middle of a game. anyone has experiences in VR gaming?

They just reviewed the "best one on the market" in the latest PC Gamer. It was utter crap, got a 62%.
They have a long way to go before they're really any good.
Which is surprising because the technology shouldn't be that advanced to make a decent immersive headset.

the best and cheapest at moment is the z800;

you can read user reviews in the forums of stereo3d stereovision

i had a vfx1 years ago. yes, its cool and much more intensive compared to shutterglasses.
i would say right now is the perfect time to buy a VRHelmet.
resolutions are at 800*600 (which is enough , games at vR look much better) and the z800 uses nvidia stereo drivers , which are the best .

Which is coincidentally what PC Gamer reviewed. Its a real bargain at $899.
excerpts from the PC gamer review:
Doesn't work with ATI cards or flat screen monitors (adapter makes it flicker)
its not actual VR its a projected screen inside the goggles.
compatability is spotty, Doom 3 yes, BF2 no
the image quality isn't that great
cross hair alignment issues
sniping is a pain unless you have sweet head control

Bottom line:
Its the best on the market, but the market sucks majorly. Don't waste the cash.

so is the reason why corporations haven't invested much efforts to make a big market with VR Helmets because it's probably eye damaging? when i think of sitting hours and hours in front of a small screen for each eye with a distance of 3-4 cm it sounds reasonable.

so.. i still have to wait for my ATi-brainchip x10666XT to get deeper into games Very Happy

Nah it's down to processing power. Takes a lot to do it. I remember the arcade machines, they were shite.

There was a lot of study on these things by Sega and apparently it has to be ultra light. It can't weigh more than X (no idea how much) otherwise your neck cant take it over extended periods of time. And like Jenni said, it takes alot of processing power to determine where your hand is, as opposed to waiting for a mouse click.

I used shutter glasses for quite some time, but apparently my depth perception really sucks, because I could tell very little difference between the 3d image and the regular monitor one. It was definitely working, because there WAS depth, just not enough to really care about.

If you are using the glasses with Nvidia (and btw nvidia is the only card that they really work with) there are buttons to change the depth distance. You can make things barely "stick-out" or make everything really "deep", but you loose some of the peripheral vision.

I used shutter glasses also. They are great fun, but they do fuck with your eyes a little. Used to play Live for Speed with glasses, and after i took them off, my lap times droped by few seconds.
