god damn want an rpg like bg2 now |
Yeah I know what you mean, its rare to get an intelligent, deep, professional rpg like BG2.
I kinda saw this comming though, you had to know that after the Infinity Engine had its run, it would be a long time until a new engine came out that catches the imagination of rpg designers.
Unfortunatly its been like...7 years now, and still nothing can touch it. I'm hoping Dragon Age is that next game engine, at the very least it will spawn another 1000+ user made modules that will undoubtably have some real gems in there ala NWN, we are gaurenteed at least that.
I wish they would go back to the 2d games with hand-made artwork, they are so beautiful when it comes to the area design, I would take that any day over these 3d games and all their bland polygon environment's (Oblivian being the exception, but the price to pay is time time time). Plus you can make a game so quickly like that, look at how fast they churned out all those Infinity Engine games, and every single one of them was spectacular.

I don't know, D4rkKnight, but somehow 'spectacular' is not the word I would choose to describe the Icewind Dale games.

first i sure hope next year will be one helluva year for rpg freaks 'cause beside the NwN2, Oblivion and Gothic 3.. there will be THE WITCHER by BioWare and Dark Messiah: Might and Magic and it is FPS/RPG in Valve's Source Engine .. that'll be indead one of the best games ever.. i guess RPG based Lord Of The Rings will be released neXt year too... but i donno if its MMO or not..
2nd, Legacy of Kane is NO rpg... its adventure/action game and there's no rpg element in it.
you can still enjoy old rpg games like Icewind Dale that's indead the most difficult rpg ever, and someone plz tell me where can i find the MDS/MDF image of "BEYOND DIVINITY" ?! i've played Divine Divinity last year and that was one of the best rpgs i ever played.. i recommend it to those who havent played it yet..

Hammer & Sickle is coming any moment (its gone gold):
http://www.hammer-sickle.com/
I'm waiting for it, being a RPG fan, it looks amazing... perhaps the graphics a bit kiddy, but just look at a few movies and you'll see its quite an interactive RPG... you are free to blow up the enviroment if that is needed to accomplish your goals
Also the setting is quite original for a RPG.

Have you tried Sacred? There is a Vampire character in it. One of the best action RPGs I have ever played. Ascaron kind of dropped the ball on Sacred Underworld, buggy. They are putting everything into Sacred 2 and neglecting Sacred Underworld.

yeah its a RPG.
WW2 setting and you control 1 guy. A spy who can specialize in 6 classes and lots of weapons and kinda tactics
imo looks really sweet. Have to be honest though... never played anything from/with Silent Storm before...

Quite a variant from a vampire thematic though, at least from the usual Gothic\Medieval vampire thematic that everyone loves and its not much of an RPG but the Soul Reaver series has my 4,8 out of 5 stars !
The only thing out its the half-assed Bloodrayne 2 !

Night Watch, whenever it gets released in a language other than Russian. It's based on the books/movie of the same name, and has vampires, shapeshifters, and other supernatural stuff in it.
The game is by Nival and also uses the Silent Storm engine.
Hammer and Sickle is an actual sequel to Silent Storm, by the way. It's set a few years after Sentinels, and the best news of all is that Panzerkleins have been removed from the game.

That's only at the start, you can get a full squad later on just like in Silent Storm (in both those games the first mission was a solo one too).
Only 2 more weeks until it's released too... definitely the game I'm looking forward to most this year.

Bioware isn't developing The Witcher, it's another company that's just using the NWN Aurora engine. It does look really interesting though.

U know what kinda rpg game i would be interested in? A WW1 rpg/fps game...seriously, pure trench fighting along with character development, thus leading to ur own unique soldier (on whatever side) that u fight with in The Great War....that'd be so awesome. I mean, we've had a ton of WW2 games...but not 1 WW1 game...and, to me WW1 is way more interesting and intense than WW2 - it was the bloodiest war ever, and alot of modern war techniques and equipment came outta WW1....I mean, it'd be awesome having to rush no man's land, in a cloud of mustard gas, to take out a Jerry trench...
Fuck, to bad u cant suggest idea's to game developers...I would love to see the guys who make the COD series, develop a WW1 rpg/fps game....itd be very very very cool imo. Especially with some of the real battles implemented into it, totally awesome and it'd be pretty hard - like half the battle would be gettin through no man's land on the front lines, very cool concept.

Imagine Divine Divinity without the freedom to do what you want, you go from one place to the next advancing the storyline and killing shit with no say-so in between...in other words DD was a much better game.

hmm, yeah. I just think fantasy and RPG is so cloes together, that its hard to imagine a game like you describe.. Still everything RPG is cool in my book as long as it's well done But if we did get a game like you say, it would at least be innovative.

The reason i think its a good format for an rpg, is well, it hasnt been done. And war encompases alot of different emotions...love, violence, friendship, mortality etc that could be utilized by the game.
I think the Lionhead guys could pull it off, but with the COD team leading the combat development part.
