Office 12 beta 1 is out. Can anyone say how stable or productive it is? Also, are the new open file formats compatible with previous office suites?

Hmm, I will be looking into that release. I will let you know what I think once I get a chance to stretch it's legs.

The release is stable.
How productive is it? I'm not sure what you mean. That's a marketing term that I think is used inappropriately. I would say the new interface, although it looks nice, will be confusing to current office users. I find it to be frustrating at times (items that were very simple to locate in Office 2000/XP/2003 are sometimes difficult or impossible to find because the interface is unfamiliar).
The file formats are not currently compatible with previous versions. MS will make available converters that will allow previous versions to open the OfficeML file formats (currently the 97-2003 file format is included in the ZIP package of the new format: that will not be the case in the final version).

It sucks that my NFO didn't get posted before WinBeta's DVD NFO was. I've been seeding since early the 18th.
Download NFO
Basically: All the client-side applications, none of the servers (who is really going to use the servers?).
DVD Contents:
Access 12
Business Contact Manager
Excel 12
Groove 12
InfoPath 12
OneNote 12
Outlook 12
PowerPoint 12
Project 12
Publisher 12
Sharepoint Designer (FrontPage) 12
Visio 12
Word 12
Developer Docs
Visual Studio Plugins
Custom CD Icon
Open XML File Format Compatibility Pack
Office Online Beta Authorization Control
vbe6.dll update
.NET 2.0 Redistributable
Note the Open XML File Format Compatiility Pack. This is the tool that allows people running earlier versions of office to read files created by Office 12.

Im really liking the new GUI for office 12, took awhile getting use to but its been growing on me. Also if you have yet to use groove you should check it out, amazing program. Looks like M$ might actually be doing something right for once.
