Recently a computer that I use has come down with a virus.
It was riddled with spyware, virus's and refused to connect to the internet.
I managed to remove the spyware and get the internet working YAY but there seems to a virus im having probs with removing.
It's stopping NAV and NIS from loading and working however the firewall seems to be active?
It's made the CD drive disapear from "My Computer". and closes "reg edit" when its open.
How gay!

...I did load nod32 on it and it detected a virus in csrss.exe however it was fixed. Ive used adaware and spybot for the spyware and startup control panel to stop things from loading with windows.
Well the best way to kill a virus is to simply re-install! But if that isnt an option there are plenty of virus scanners for linux, you could install (or boot into) a linux distro with the scanner of choice installed and nuke the windows share that way. The major issue you'll be having is with the files that are in use on boot, the scanner can't do much to remove viruses from these files if windows is using them when it tries !

There seems to be an application sitting in the background making sure that some files are there and not being deleted. I delete part of the problem then it reapears if that makes any sense.?
is there any app to show and log what happens in the background of the computer?
I couldnt find any CD based linux distro's which where created to perform this job, but I may missed something, ill have a word with my linux guru friend tommorrow if I see him, he might be able to shed more light on that.
As for giving more information on whats going on behind the scenes, might want to try something like - http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/ (google find, havent tried it myself, but it looks to be helpful for blocking processes and seeing that little bit more info).
There is a linux boot cd (knoppix) with two virus scanners installed, but it is only sold with the german computer mag c't i think, i have it lying on my desk
Also make sure to disable system restore before scanning under windows, and boot to safe mode for the scanning itsself.

no no syn, the downloadable version doesn't have any scanners, only the one sold with this computer mag has it. It's called Knoppicillin, sadly you can't download it. Its only sold with the mag.

Seems as though the ISO contains some programs which require purchase - So, as I said before, it can be found, although how legal it is? Not that sure? (I don't speak german haha)
As for the linux solution, will it not be a problem that he is most likely using NTFS, and for removing viruses, you would have to have write-access. The NTFS writing in linux isn't very stable
As another note, you could try to start 'msconfig' and look through the startup-processes. Try to disable them all and do a virus-scan. All though this will not work if some of your system files are infected. Scanning in safe-mode is a good idea.

Yeah, they say its unstable, but I've had no issues EVER! Would be worth a try at least.
