Im about to buy a new system but i dont know if i should keep the 32bit or upgrade for 64bit. My new machine will be MSI Neo4-F NForce 4 X2 ready PCI-Express with a AMD Athlon 64 3500+ 512k 939pin

I heard a lot of people complaining about having issues with game running under 64bit.

I am not much of a gamer, and i dont have Xp64 installed yet (modem drivers come out on the 17th)

But when I did install it the diffrenc ein performance from xp32 + xp64 was a noticable diffrence.

On the 17th I will be installing it on a second driver with a bootloader so I can play about, thats what I would advise anyone to do before migrating over to it fully.

It needs a different set of drivers for everyting to be compatible with the 64bit?

Yeah, so its worth incestigating first if they are avalable for your system

Everything on my system has drivers apart from the modem, and most companys are offering 64bit drivers now, there is also a good driver database built in... but its worth checking.

you will have a lot of compatability problems with the 64 bit... not worth it until they develop it more... Smile

I went back to 32 bit...

No, it simply supports 64bit memory/cpu operations. It is a 32bit CPU with 64bit capability. It is not a "true" 64bit cpu..

stick to 32bit Smile

I've been running the x64-version of windows since this summer and I haven't had any compatibility problems, except with Daemon Tools since it haven't got any 64bit drivers yet. It's coming in V4 (October some time).

Luckily Daemon Tools isnt an application widely used by Nforce-users Razz

I got annoyed with the x64 version as there was no real support for cd writing (yes I know nero made a 64bit version).

Had problems with my printer and getting my digital camera and bluetooth dongle working...

In the end I had winxp 32bit emulated in vmware to do the things x64 couldnt. One fresh reinstall later I was back to the 32bit - a breath of fresh air Wink

Thats mainly due to the fact that true 64bit computing was not created for desktop systems (as no desktop chip is "full" 64bit), so its low on the "needed" list above 32bit drivers/apps/support. Its understandable comming from that POV. The best plan is to wait for a few years, XP64 will not be the future of 64bit desktop computing, you wont see that for a long time to come, which by that time vista64 will be happily sitting in shops Wink!

sYn, we both know that they aren't just 32bit chips that can support 64bit instructions. They have a 64bit architecture.

They have 64bit instruction sets within the architecture, but they're not a pure 64bit arch. If they where they wouldn't be able to run 32bit OS's Wink! That is what I meant by 64bit instructions.

All the latest games perform well in x64.

Listening to others rant horse manure is bound to put you off. Try the os for youself before coming to any conclusions.

Valuable advise there, couldn't agree any more.
I do think it depends on what you do on the computer, the latest games do work but a lot of utilities dont and some old games don't like it.
