|
 |
i know it sounds stupid, but 2 weeks ago i got this cheap lil lexmark Z615 for 20 euro.
i plugged it in and installed with the driver disc, and it worked, a test page was printed correctly.
i havent been using it in the time period between then and now, and now it doesnt work anymore. the power supply is fine, the printer can be turned on and it moves the ink cartridges into the right position automatically.
the printer just isnt recognized by the comp anymore, i tried installing the drivers anew, but strangely, the setup file from the cd just wont start. so i thought ok the cd is wasted.
i dloaded a few other setup files for it from a driver site, but same prob with every one of em. now its not setup files in general, i installed other programs through their setup files without probs. i even dloaded the .inf driver files for the printer and added em manually through "add hardware", it did recognize the driver correctly and give the name fo the printer, but then it said that an error occured during installation and the printer still couldnt be found. its really really strange, and i need this printer bad for printing some student papers, so does anyone there know what to do?

Does the printer still print a self test page, i don't mean the testpage printed within windows, the printer should be able to print a test page without being connected to the computer. Check the manual for instructions on that.
Also what interfaces does the printer have? If it has both usb and parallel try both. We only have laser printers at work, so i don't know for sure if it applies to your printer, but there is usually a tool wich lets you remove the old driver (lexmark offers this tool for their high end laser printers), try that also if you can find it for your model.
Try to install the driver manually like you did with the *.inf file, but uncheck the plug and play thing, you should be able to install any printer like that, even if it is not present, but if it works after that is another question

its a usb only printer, i didnt try that self test page yet, i ll try the method with deactivating plug and play first, thx for the input.
update: i ve removed everything related to the printer, now when i plug it into the usb slot it detects the hardware, but after i click to install it it says "the rpc server is unavailable". i activated the rpc locator service and tried again but same thing.
bleh
edit: solved the prob, works finally.
had to restart a shitload of services and processes, and my spoolss.dll and spoolsv.exe in the system32 folder were corrupted.
