Ok, so my D2:LoD discs are sitting on my shelf staring at me....urging me to play...actually more lik ebegging me to BEAT them. Yes, that's right. For as long as D2 has been out, I've not ONCE had the urge to fully complete the game.
Yesterday I've finally done it  Played as a summoner only necro, I took up the challenge and finally made Baal my bitch, earning me the privaledge of playing HC. Took me all of 12 hours to do it (nonconsecutive). Holy crap, it's far more exhilerating knowing that one mistake won't just cost you some gold, but every damn thing you've collected. Not only that but a friend of mine is helping me out and gave me a full 7 piece set to get me started (the Stigan set i think), and the thought of losing all that gear makes me real scared! Oh, and I'm playing a pally this time around. Not a cookie cutter build either, something I thought I'd goof around with (will put all points into Fanaticism, Vengeance, and the 4 resist auras for synergy to Veng). Fun so far, though Veng really chews through mana, so I'm thinking of augmenting the build with Zeal for the small mobs, and using Veng for bosses (that aren't resistant to everything heh).
Anyway, I'm more or less posting this because there hasn't been any new action rpg games out that are worth playing, and DS2 really doesn't hold a candle to D2. Sacred is fun and has some big improvements over D2, but the static map really bogs down on the repetative side of things. I gotta say though, the (lack of) inventory in D2 pisses a packrat like me off!!

I assume you are talking about rpg and not mmorpg, right?

Diablo is kinda cool. Mindless killing is a nice time killer. And you get rewards for killings, which is nice too.

I'm just bummed I don't have Oblivion on my PC right now. And out of my RPG collection (BG, BG2, NWN+xpacks, DS1+xpacks, DS2, ID1+2, ToEE, Kult, Sacred, etc etc etc) Diablo 2 is the one I replay the most. Sure it's repetative, but once you ignore every item that drops and just stick with gear that emphasizes your skill selection you can whip through it no prob. Hell, I did Act1+2 in about hour and a half solo.
Anyway, I thik what I need to do is lay off RPG's for awhle, lol.
i can has computar?!

buuuh ! Diablo 2 sucks compared to Diablo + Hellfire
btw you should try http://adom.de/ (has no graphics but it is funny and addictive as hell)

I love Diablo 2 simply for the fact that they dreamed up the Hardcore mode.
It brings me back slightly to the old UO days where risk and reward were top themes.
The fact you could completely lose your guy for good any second makes it so much fun. I've taken a few hits in there though.. a 74 necro got 2-shotted through a doorway.. I stared at my screen in disbelief for a minute. 
Been playing on and off again, got my necro back up to 55.
Going into hardcore with a bunch of friends is the real treat, laughing when one of them dies, but not toooo much, you want to them play again.
