Heard any news when the game will be released?
What kind of protection will it have?

basing that on what? Have you played it in russian, or played Silent Storm and Silent Storm Sentinels? Both of which are amazing turn-based games that completely outstrip any competition.

Yes, I've played it. I quite liked SS, but describing this as an RPG is just not right. I played Hammer & Sickle expecting an RPG, and all I got was more of the same let's-blow-shit-up gameplay. The story and game world is a laugh, and the piss-poor voice acting and the characters inability to show emotion just makes me not give a shit what happens to them. Oh, and the pathfinding is still crap, wtf is up with that? You'd figure they'd learned by now.

Really, this game is mediocre at best, and that's being kind.

So you're saying the game is crap because yet another developer lied about a game being an RPG? welcome to the real world... if they put a skill system, or ANY method of improving your character they call it an RPG. Its been like that for years, basically since Diablo tried to pretend it was an RPG.

If you went into it believing it was an RPG solely based on that, well thats hardly the games fault. If it is just "more of the same" then that is great. The engine is solid, the gameplay is solid. You don't play those games for the voice acting. They're made by russian developers, you're lucky you can even understand it when its translated over.

Well theres the answer to why its not been released yet.

And i am going with jedibob on this one. dont get me wrong, i LOVED silent storm. i bought it off a british estore and shipped overseas as soon as it was available. it is The greatest thing in squad-based tbs games since jagged alliance 2, which i dont say lightly since ja is the closest thing to a religion for me.
However....

The current state of the silent storm community is comatose, at best...what could have been a real kickass feature-rich engine with endless possibilities became a dead-end quagmire of modders everywhere. The editor was bloated, full of bugs, and there was little to no support, especially for english speakers.
And then came sentinels. What could have been a jumpstart to the community was simply a tacked-on bunch of maps with great gameplay improvements poorly implemented, resulting in a huge dissapointment for most. The most commonly asked for things-take out the panzer suits and more open-ended gameplay were ignored. The combat was uninspired and lacking in options, level design was linear and cramped, and it was short. This was all due to the fact of course that it was churned out in less than 6 monthes. Given more time, who knows how great it could have been.

Anyways that is why i put little faith in h&s for revival, even before i read the horrible reviews. For whatever reason, i wont speculate, nival lost interest in the whole series and just does what little it can to still profit from it. If you dont believe me, go to the official forums. There used to be 50 people browsing at a time, when it was slow....now it is a handful. Its a shame when something with so much promise goes to waste.

As u can see, it's a matter of taste. The scores differ greatly from one reviewer to another...

Played Russian version a month or so ago. I'm sorry, but Hammer & Sickle sucks. Don't expect anything from it. It's short, buggy and hopelessly messy. It's very frustrating to see such an excellent engine wasted. Nightwatch is better, but it's more cyberpunk-fantasy experience (and I'm not sure it's going to be published outside Russia).

I loved SS and Sentinels. But this one is completely broken, even after 1.1 patch (I guess it will be integrated in US version). You never know what to do; characters appear and disappear without explanation; enemies attack you completely at random moments; it's completely unbalanced - at the beginning I had to kill like 10 or 15 people with my level 3 hero, who had only a weak machine gun and one clip of ammo. I managed to do it, but it was absurdly difficult.

Well, yes, engine is the same. That is a plus. But it doesn't save this game.

Silent Storm Gold has supposed to have been out since nov 22 in NA, but EB games doesn't have it anywhere around me.

Not having a solid worldwide publisher makes their release dates best guesses really

too bad publishers put the best protections on the worst(at least in sales-wise) titles.. something i never understood, when big ones like microsoft puts cheeseball prot on its games. anyways hopefully someone somewhere cracks it, id like to at least see how bad it is for myself.

we do have people here from all over the world, you might try listing your country or language in case someone is fluently bilingual in it. Best guess from me is that you're having trouble with the starforce protection?

According to the nfo file you have to burn this, there are no instructions for mounting it (though I'll give it a try when I get it)
