|
 |
I'm thinking about making a Website for professional purposes, but before I'll put the site up I want just to have a black site with a small time counter in the middle, someting like:
Opening in "1 Week 2 Days 11 Hours and 32 Minutes"
the last site I made was some 6 years ago, I just don't know how to get the counter and put in my site. I've got the latest version of Macromedia Studio. Also I need help about what application to use and what type of languange, the site will need to be updated in a daily basis, and will require flash animations, frames and images, I was thinking of PHP or ASP, but I just don't know to use it, but if HTML can do the job, great. (I'm also aware that many hosts do not support PHP, and I will need to find some Free or really cheap host and (.com) domain)
can anyone give me sugestions in what language to use and if there is some place where I can find some really great tutorials about web design and macromedia studio?
I will be very thankfull for any help given

PHP as it is open source and not utter rubish like ASP ..
Do the counter in javascript, should be simple but its most probably been done before, check the site below for the reasons below!
http://www.hotscripts.com is a good resource.. I would suggest you simply use a pre-created CMS as it is pointless doing something that has been done before. "Textpattern" is a good one for a generic blog/news website, more because it lets you have a lot of control over the look, feel and working of the site, check out mine for a look at what it can do!
NFOrce does hosting, I found it to be a very good deal, plus its a nice way of giving back to the community, they also do domain registrations. http://shop.nforce.nl
Macromedia Studio is a useless pile of poo , you dont need a tutorial for it, as its doesnt provide anything new other than FLASH design.

so, besides Macromedia Studio, what can I use to make a site with a good appearence, besides manual coding?
I'm current unemployed, and with some unpayed debts, a friend of mine has a store that sells all sorts of stuff, he wanted to have a site for some time now, as I am unemployed he just asked me to make a site for the store and he'll pay me a comission of everything the site will sell, (even if few, it will help a lot), so I wanted to make this site, and as long as I worked on it, I will have a counter online and will advertise somewhere.
I'll need to have update prices and products and photos or images. I'll need a system for people to press a button and add a respective product to the buying list, and etc, I don't have any experience in Web Design, tell me what applications (like Macromedia Studio) will I need and some links where I can find out to do the things I'll need.

To code a store is not an easy task, so you should at least have some good knowledge of PHP an SQL. I've always written my code manually, but I've heard that Dreamweaver is pretty good.

Its *ok* for HTML, but useless for PHP.. As I said, your best off looking at pre-made PHP systems, there is no point doing something badly, when you can get something that is done already, for free, and get it running in under an hour. Then comes the task of manually playing with the look and feel which is a mix of CSS and XHTML usually.
http://www.w3schools.com/ is a great website for learning what you need to know about CSS and HTML.
I would be happy to help, Im an ex-professional web developer, and have worked on some pretty big sites... but my moto is, if you couldnt tell, dont do whats already been done.

[sYn]: I agree with you, my only objective for the moment is to make this site and get it running, as for learning, I want to re-learn web design, but later, when my life gets better, for now, I only need money, nothing more.

Then look for some opensource PHP based shop's. Maybe a CMS (content management system) to go with it, as that will provide you with a means to update the site with news and other shop information, its always good to give some solid background so a person feels safe buying from the shop.
Remember that on the internet presintation is 9/10th's of the selling ability, only idiots will buy from a shop that looks rubish. You should also look into getting a seller's paypal account, I'm not sure about how this works or if you can just get a normal persons account and use it for the shop, but this add's a little bit more ease to a users buying.
You should check out a bunch of these, and work out which is best for your needs.. most will come with a "demo" of how the front and backend works by default, this will give you a good idea on the sites usability. Again, remember people should be able to buy from your site, and find what they are looking for in no more than 3 clicks!
http://www.oscommerce.com/solutions/oscommerce - Standalone PHP shop on a GNU license
http://www.mambo-phpshop.net/ - Works along side a CMS system (mambo) which could help to provide you with the extra functionality of a news/information website ... Mambo, is a good CMS, however, it might be a little overcomplex for your needs.
These are but two of the many scripts you could use, try looking through hotscript.com's databases ! You will need to find a host which supports MYSQL (or another SQL based web platform) .. I would get your friend to fit the bill for this ..
