MONDAY, Dec. 26 (HealthDay News) -- A nicotine vaccine called NicVax appears to be a safe, well-tolerated and potentially effective aid in helping people quit smoking, researchers find

Vaccine for cancer would be nice, also.

Fuck the common cold...Smile

Ive read about a few vaccines in trials for smoking, one of which has like a 95% cure rate (in one of the recent Reader's Digest mags). Personally, I hope it happens. I do enjoy smoking, but fuck, it is killing me - slowly but surely.

Ive tried some of the other methods - gum, patch, nicotine suppliments, therapy - none of which work.
And that Zyban shit (an anti depressent that helps to block the addictive...chemical? in the brain, hence you dont crave a cigarette and or nicotine) is useless. The doctor put me on it for 3 months....she might as well have gave me bottles of weed and told me to smoke like nuts and munch out. Seriously, i'd take one before bed and wake up like 2 hours later more hungry than anything and id feast for a couple of hours, hence fuckin up my sleep.

Thats because of the massive amount of strains out there, sure they could cure one variation, but there would be no point, as different strains are mutating all the time.

anti-smoking things really aren't the problem.. the problem I seem to have with some of my friends is that they just don't want to even try to quit, they "enjoy" smoking and "that's that".

They know all about the health risks and everything, they just don't care.

Unless they supply you with a secret needle that you run up and stab your friends with..

I have made the experince that this is a matter of age, most people think different of smoking when they get older. Smoking just isn't that cool anymore if you are hitting your thirties.

Also, you don't need a nicotine vaccine to quit smoking. It's all in your mind. I quitted smoking without any help because i wanted to and my health was suffering. It was very hard, i was a heavy smoker for five years (smokes without filters, a pack a day), but after a couple of months the desire to smoke whenever i saw someone else smoking was gone. Havent touched a smoke ever agian.

I just wish I could get them to stop smoking sooner rather than later. Sad

I'm glad you quit though.

Yeah, many young people are deluded into thinking they are invincible, 'illness' is something that happens to other people.

They'll realise one day, but it might be too late by then.

Even ppl who start smoking before they are 15, sometimes have other reasons. For me, it was a stress reliever when I was a kid. But, sadly, it developd into an addiction Sad

Alright then, since I will never understand, how exactly is smoking a stress reliever? Everyone says that, but it seems like two irrelevant things to me.

An explanation from a stress relieving smoker would be helpful to me I think.

I dunno man...the nicotine relaxes you (especially ur stomach, hence IBS can be a result of smoking). And I dunno, when shit was going on in my house when i was a kid, I couldnt always say go chill with my friends or whatever. So, I'd grab some smokes, go out to the park or something and just sit around and smoke some cigarettes - that way i could avoid hearing are the shit going on in my house.

As I got older tho, cigarettes seem like the only thing that hasnt fucked with me (yes, Im aware of the contradiction there) - friends come and go, as does family.

Not an excuse mind you, but a reason...not a good one at that, but thats my reason, I cant speak for others.

If you havent smoked, u cant comment. Just like if uve never had your heart broken, you cant give someone else advice on how to deal with it as your not speaking from personal experience, rather shit you saw on oprah. ya know?
No matter how you think you would react or what you would do, trust me, it doesnt always turn out like that.

blah blah blah

If people want to smoke it shoul dbe there choice.

This is (maybe) a great thing for people who want to quit, but at the end of the day a little thing called free will comes into it, and if people want to smoke and destroy there lives, it is the choice they make.

See now you're jumping toward a dangerous line.

Some people say cutting their wrists relaxes them, should we allow free will to reign over that decision? Hell no.

Granted, smoking and cutting yourself are very drastic differences in ways to harm yourself, but at the end of the day, smoking is harming your body and friends don't like to sit back and let their friends do that to themselves.

Smoking was most definatly a cool thing to do in my youth. We had this special area on the school yard called "Raucherecke". All students aged 16 or older were allowed to smoke in that area during school break. All the popular and cool kids hang out there and if you wanted to be a part of it you had to start smoking, and everyone in school made comments like ..."oh cool you started smoking too", it was a way of socialising i guess, even teachers borrowed smokes from us. Of course i think now that it was a stupid thing to do, but doing stupid and irrational things is usually part of being a teenager.

if youve done it a dozen of times, it wasnt successful i suppose. in the last year i tried to quit about 5 times, always failed because me missus kept smoking. it's near impossible to quit if somebody in the house still smokes, even though we dont smoke inside the house, its fucking impossible. it that thing gets approved, im the first to get it...

Some kids here nowadays start smoking cigs at 12-13, and 15-16 they start with cocaine, they even use cocaine in free time at school, thats sad, fuck them.
