i got caught uploading at my uni 3 days ago and i just got allowed back my net but with no more downloads allowed policy.
and this is why:

I got one of those once b/c of BitTorrent. Stopped everything for like 2 weeks, then picked it up again. Now I use mainly Newsgroups and rarely IRC (forgot the last time I used BT). Have yet to hear bitching from anyone since (been 1+ year).

that sucks man, i ve been using a 6 mbit connection via wlan over a relais point with a provider who doesnt need accurate address info, since he doesnt need to ship me anything, i m connecting directly to one of the wireles routers.
that should make it pretty hard for em to find my physical location, especially since i m switching accounts every 2 weeks. 
if thats not enough pwnage, the first 2 weeks are always free, so changing account every 2 weeks = free 6 mbit internet while being non-tracable.

Well, it would always work as they would not be able to see what the packages contain, and because of that they will not be able to identify if he's downloading something illegal. I'm not saying it's impossible, but I don't think the uni would take the time to try and decrypt the packages.

Yeah but encrypting is just a stupid way to go about it (unless of course, you have a hyper locked down uni). There are much better alternatives than having to encrpyt - not that encrypting is an overly bad idea, just theres alot better ways of solving the problem of getting caught.
