windows XP at home and work. My worst experience: suffered through 1 year of Red Hat and Mandrake at my previous work place. I almost threw the laptop against the wall.

I do not see why you want exe-files so badly?
As it's the program it self that cant run on a different OS, not the fact that the it's in the .exe format. The exe format is just what MS has decided that they wanted to call the executable. I on the other hand like the *nix way much better where you mostly don't have any file-extension to the executables.
Edit: and btw, the only reason I have for not switching entirely to linux is the fact that most games today are developed using direct x. Linux has replacement-programs for almost everything that you would use in Windows.

Or better yet if more developers would follow ID or Epic with their linux ports.
If every game developers would use something like OpenAL, SDL etc, porting wouldn't be a problem at all.

I wonder if Linux will ever be a alternative for every windows user.
Ive played with SuSE for 3 years or so and realize I cannot switch, there's just too many usefull windows programs.
I use windows XP
I play with SuSE.

Give us a good reason why windows is better, and don't say games, as that doesn't make it a better operating-system.

Allot of distros today has some sort of package-manager that takes care of this for you, so the installation is even easier than on windows.
That of course is if the package is in the distro's package repo.

I'm an XP user myself and I have tried multiple *nix distros. The learning curve for me is to just too great and teh benefits did not out weigh the costs of switching completely over. For the record, the best distro I did use was Suse.
