I was going to pre-order (seeing as how I own the first game and enjoyed it very much) but only 2 races are in the beta. blah.

I hear the Beta is only MP too No Skirmish against computer opponents.
This game has a lot of balancing issues. I have read from Middle Earth Vault. But that's what Beta's are for. Hopefully they get all that balancing stuff figured out. One of the worst things I have heard yet is that you cannot put archers on your walls!!!! $%^&@*$#!!! That was such a cool option in the first game. If the final version comes out with this problem not solved I will have problems with this game. Of course it will be fun but not finished imho!

If it's better then the first one I'm satisfied

I don't mean playing on their servers.. I mean being able to play on private servers.. That worked with TFT C&C WoW etc in beta stages and after the beta's It remained the same.. so I am guessing that will happen soon.

Anyone knows the story of the game? Will it be another look into the end of third age and the ring?
Would be cool if the story involved Morgoth and the early battles. Or perhaps continue with the start of the forth age...

Does this even work at all? Don't you have to verify the copy online before you can play it. With an account that is.

It is set in the third age before the time of aragorn and legolas etc etc(The very first war wich you only seen a little bit about at the start of the fellowship of the ring movie)
Should be good.

i like how they split the elves and dwarves into their own factions. the thing i hated about the first one is you were either good or evil and the elves were just the bitches for the good side. should be some insane lan party action with this one.

Single-player demo of real-time strategy games based on Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings films and J.R.R. Tolkien's novels arrives Thursday.
With Electronic Arts' The Lord of the Rings, The Battle for Middle-earth II PC game set to hit shelves at the end of the month, GameSpot is getting ready to offer gamers an early peek at the game in the form of a single-player demo. Would-be ringwraiths can head over to the premiere page and watch a timer count down to the demo's release, or just make a note to come back when it goes live at 9 a.m. PST on Thursday.
The Lord of the Rings, The Battle for Middle-earth II is the sequel to the 2004 real-time strategy game that used assets from Peter Jackson's award-winning motion pictures based on the fiction of novelist J.R.R. Tolkien. The sequel will leverage Tolkien's expanded written lore along with the movie rights to include new battles and characters not featured in the films.
The 1.3GB demo allows gamers to choose from two of the three new factions in Battle for Middle-earth II (goblins and dwarves), and get used to them on a pair of maps covering a tutorial and single-player skirmish mode. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.
