Dunno where to post this.
but anyway;
A release officially announcing former European communication and investment strategies head Greg Koler as new CEO and president of Phantom developer Infinium Labs (after an interim appointment previously discussed here), has also reaffirmed the company's commitment to launch its long-delayed and beleaguered digital distribution service sometime in 2006. Said Koler, "I know all of us in management are committed to achieving that goal in launching the Phantom Game Service to market this 2006."
I highly doubt this wil be a success since the systemspecs arent that great

Bah the Phantom... It was all about getting money from investors and never releasing a product... Wasn't it that one that was supposed to be able to play xbox, pc and most other console games? Would offer internet downloads of games, demos and movies... And much much more.
That POS should be burried and forgotten, the original founder shot and all his money given to me...
Behold his GLORY! Bow for the technical master!

Actually, you guys need to stop the trendy hate and think about it again.
Personally, I love the Steam distrobution method that Valve does, I bought HL2 Gold over steam, and also Guild Wars over the web. It's such an easy way to buy your software. I hope more companies pick it up, as I will keep buying from them.
Now instead of it being from one company, and a handful of titles, it would be for everything, even on consoles.
No more reserved copies, no more trips to the mall, no more sold out... just buy and go. I really like this kind of system.
I think some of you are too obsessed with instruction manuals and shiny boxes though, which is a shame really. I know all my boxes haven't been touched in years, and I don't think I've ever actually opened any manuals. The manual problem could be easily fixed though, a pdf or something similiar to go along with your purchase.
I agree that the Phantom is really fucked up and probably is going to suck just because of the way they approached this, and they'd need to have like every developer on board for this to work. And there are probably 75489375 contracts against developers signing up with this sort of thing, which is why I think the Phantom will fail, but this idea is probably the way of the future, one that I personally am all for.
