Hey there, i was just wondering what people's favourite free form fighting games were? I'm talking full 3d, and something fairly recent like end 2003 to early 2006. Some of my favs are:
POP Series = not bad fighting, more puzzles and platforming though
Chaos Legion = back backrounds, but good animation and ideas!
Ninja Gaiden = a bit hard, but a nice game
Devil May Cry = Serious ass kicking
Big fan of such games, i hope to see more on the market.

Die by the sword if I get what you're talking about. I think it even had a macro style system for setting up sword moves. The full sword movement using the numbpad was pretty cool.

nah i think the whole inf ammo in dmc kinda added more fun to it.... just imagine how painfull it is to run around colleting ammo while every room spawns bad guys... you be wasting more ammo than colletiong..... i think thats what the devs actualy intented its a simple game with quite fun ideas... i played all 3 of them besides the main thing is you be using the swords more then the weapons the other weapons only add more combos to the count... and adding diffrent styles of fighting like in dmc3 added more fun to it... the weapons mode change and behave diffrently with diffrent combos depending on the style... now imagine having a quicksilver power that boosts your speed and having limited ammo like 100 bullets you be wasting all the bullets in few secots even the guns dante has ammo collecting is a usless feature in a game like dmc..
i think the best free form fight game is dmc its improved each game apart for dmc2 that was crap game while dmc3 improved alot

Yeah, DMC 3 looks great. I haven't played it sadly, but just from watching gameplay videos i can tell it's a blast. I played ninja gaiden a little on xbox, and i wasn't very impressed. The GFX were nice, the animations were amazing, but i really didn't feel like i was kicking seirous ass. Just from watching DMC 3 videos you can tell that the monsters are having their asses handed to them, the fluidity of motion/combos looks great, i hope it comes to PC as rumoured. I think the best action is found in free form fighting, and I'm a big fan of japanese animation as I used to watch DBZ and the like when I was a kid (sadly that wasn't so long ago). But certainly if DMC is the cream of the crop then I think any fan of the genre should try it.

Get the newest dragon ball z game for the PS2. I'm not really into DBZ, I haven't got a clue what the retarded looking characters are babbling about, but the fighting gameplay is great. Some of the more powerful characters can knock you half way accross a map and through a mountain FFS!

for the most part it seems to me 'free-form fighting' is just another marketing buzzword to shove more crap in our faces, imho. just strung together combo fighting moves that dont seem as random-button-pushing as some other games. but i did enjoy a bit of the newest matrix game(on the xbox im sure it was a pos on the pc)...and also the kung fu mod for max payne(if that counts since it was before the buzzword was invented). that was a real blast.
