When I start the game it crashes in the game loading screen while loading engine and I get the message "failed to initialize graphic renderer check your direcx version and graphic settings". So i check (dxdiag) and I got the 9.0c.I have Ati Radeon 9600 with 256 MB and I got the latest driver. I borrowed an Ati Radeon 9250 with 128 MB from a friend of mine and the game works perfectly. I don't have much knowledge about computer hardware so if someone can help me with this problem of mine I would be very grateful.
My friend is laughing at me that his cheaper card is better than mine (:

weird, but maybe you should go to the ati website and download a new driver?

Or email the support service and ask them if there is a special driver?

same happened here in Need for speed. When i launch the game with a high resolutotion it always crashed.

Have you tried to put all the settings on lowest? Switch cards, launch the game with the new card, and then higher settings again. Maybe this works.

Upgrade CIV to trhe latest patch 1.52 I think it is as it fixes that known bug with ATI vid cards. Well supposedlt they fixed it in 1.09 but as patches hold fixes from previous fixes you can install 1.52 for the fix too.

Taken from the 1.09 fix - > Fixes:
- ATI issue Failed to Init Renderer Fixed

As I say get 1.52, I use an ati card and have installed the 1.52 patch and all seems ok.
