As recently as mid-December I was able to use Darksteam to dl stuff from Steam. Recently though I've been getting a protection error, so I tried some of the alternatives with no luck. Last post I read on here was made at the end of November but I've used it since then, so was just wondering if I'm doing something wrong or whether we're "mid-update"?

Thanks - looks like they've done a good job of keeping that lowkey - can't find it anywhere!

Try Unilauncher 2(To download) + SteamRipper(To play), FireSteam 1.5 is still the best tough and does everything alone .

I've tried all of the programs mentioned so far (with the exception of Firesteam 1.5, which I just can not find anywhere) and each one of them gives me the same message I've been receiving since DarkSteam stopped working on me, namely:
Steam.exe (main exception): Win32 StructuredException at 0FD40AEA : Attempt to read from virtual address 0 without appropriate access rights.
I have tried creating new accounts and reinstalling, but I get this everytime. I wonder if it has anything to do with me once accidentally using DarkSteamOffline while I was connected (it was very brief). If that is the case, what can I do to reset my computers history with steam?

Ironically enough I own 2 copies of HL2, one had the key stolen and it seemed less hassle to just buy another copy then scan the discs and serial and receipt off to valve......

Am I one of very very few people that actually thinks steam is working great? Never had any problem with it...
And about the games, go buy them ffs. Half-Life 2 is well worth the money, and getting shit over steam is piece of cake IMHO.

I never had any problems with Steam also.
However, recently I noticed that it constantly sucks data from remote servers,
while it's update monitor says there is nothing to update/predownload.
And no steam game was started. It has rapidly downloaded 50megs of something and was about to continue, hopefully I blocked it with firewall.
