Nope. It is the size it is because any other would fuck with the layout of the board.

What resolution is needed to browse the forum without the need to scroll right all the time...

As long as people don't post pics larger than 800x600 I guess that 1024x768 would be enough.

1600x1280, 1280x1024, 1024x800 work fine for me on 3 different machines..
As for the avatar size, put a request into site feedback, but Im 100% certain it will be rejected as someone already said, this is a forum, not a gallery.. but more to the point, 80x80 is more than enough for an avatar!

hmmm
I am using opera and the layout is fucked up for me since the new layout...
doesn`t matter what resolution I set - I must ALWAYS scroll; no matter if there are pics or not...

Thats a CSS support issue, or your using scripts which block certain parts of the site which could be needed to create the correct layout.
Having no issues in FF or IE.
