I can't seem to find an older discussion about it, so I thought i'd start one.
Anyone else hangin' for this game? I sure am, it looks like a vast improvement on Driv3r.

lol it definitely wants to be a vast improvement on Driv3r! Actually I dont see how they could do any worse!
May the NFOrce be with you always.

*hopes*
Either way, they've put in blood, removed the FPS controls for out of the car....made only about 15% of the game onfoot missions......the rest is driving, 2 eras (78 and 06).
I'm intrigued and at the same time, excited.

I just checked out the demo too.
I don't know if it's wierd, but for some reason I can play the demo as long as i want (i know the ps2 version is 10 minutes long).
I just played it for 53 minutes or something, and went through a whole day/night cycle.
Oh, should add that I think the demo is shockingly fun and the full game says to me....... the demo + alot more cars and bikes + things to do + more places to go.
This game has to make some serious errors from the demo to final stage to disappoint me.
Playing the demo has made it a little harder to wait.

Driver 3 was nice imo so of course I'm looking forward to this game.
But what does that mean: KillaK wrote: | removed the FPS controls for out of the car | ?
Please don't tell me the on-foot controls are as stupid as GTA's now (lock-on targeting instead of free aiming). That would really suck! The on-foot controls in Driver 3 were decent when you took the time to change the sensitivity. With a bit of tuning for the new game they could have been good.

for me, driv3r was ruined by the on foot sections, tuning sensitivity or not, they really sucked... on ps2 or xbox...
the driver series has always excelled at the driving bits, so i'm hoping the on foot sections don't ruin this game...
and lets hope to god that they've sorted out framerate/popup issues from 3... i know gamesmaster mag says ps2 version still has popup...aaargh

well i liked driver 3 , enough to finish it anyway i thought the missions were pretty good wen u where in the car the running and shooting sucked big time but ive seen worse , i am really looking forward to parallel line though
As for framerate, the 360 version runs smooth, while the PS3 is a jaggy mess that chugs along in slow motion.

totally agree with you there. The framerate does go to hell quite a bit, especially if you take corners quickly.
But for some reason it just doesn't feel like the disappointment created by Driv3r's framerate.
I also wonder how early the demo build is......coz it can only get better from here on in

Weedo, the final version will also look like that, with the black bars at the top and bottom of the screen, because DPL is a game that plays in 16:9 format and not 4:3 like your tv set. If you have a widescreen tv you won't see those black bars.

The game was good.
I've been playing it on PS2 for some hours now, and it's mutch better than Driv3r.
I hate you.

Mini-Review :
It's not that good, The big bug's are a problem such as the red-light bug.. UGH! is this still beta or what?!? I mean how could you not notice a big problem like that?!
The storyline is dull, Not orignal.. Feel's like its trying to be GTA and doing a bad job of it.
6/10
I think gamespot sums this game up correctly for once :

it was actually pretty nice.
comparing it to gta is not fair. its like comparing lotr to willow. lotr is like a bulldozer, but that doesnt mean willow was a bad movie. that little dwarf was in fact a tough little fella and val kilmer did his first good movie performance since top gun.
anyway, back to the game.
gfx is ok, with some blur effects and little lull lull like that. the size of the city is pretty big and there is plenty of alleys where the cops will run you down.
music is so far into the game (about 2 hours) of course 70´s shits and hits. it start of good with blondie but then there is an onerwhelming pile of dicso funky crap as well. custom soundtrack is available.
one small detail i like is that if you lose the cops you can change cars and the wanted meter goes down to zero. this because they only recognizes the car, not the driver.
the shooting is of course crappy. reminds me a bit of gun. left trigger locks and right thumb flicking will change target. has only been one mission with gunplay so far though...
so expect some wild cop chases and races and 70 vibes.
i give it 7
