Crysis [FarCry2]
http://www.gamershell.com/news/27536.html
The first DX10 game announced
Back in September 2005, at the PDC Microsoft Conference, CryTek, developers of Far Cry, released a movie that showcased some of the capabilities of the Cry Engine 2 under DirectX 10 API: dynamic day/night cycle, fully interactive enviroments, sunrays and diffuse transmission, real time soft shadows, soft particles, interactive/destructrible enviroments, volumetric clouds, and advanced shader technology. Courtesy of DocSEAL, we have the official version of the movie (hi-res version), along with a German video interview with Cevat Yerli, CEO of Crytek, Sten Hübler, Lead Level Designer, and Bernd Diemer, Game Designer. Enjoy another Gamershell.com premiere The game is named Crysis and will be shipping, as the first DX10 enabled game, in Q4 2006. We have the first screenshots from the game, screenshots that were exclusive to the latest Gamestar magazine issue released today.

its not like you wont be able to run it with a dx9 card, i thought they were gonna release something that enables dx9 cards to use dx10 features or something to that effect.

you're right. dx10 has to be emulated on any non-dx10 card. It was announced awhile back that DX10 wouldn't be backwards compatible. It will use software emulation that will significantly impact performance.

nah not really, sure the story lacked alot though it had some great moments both visual and action orientated sequence. The excellent engine was made to insure great modding capabilities.

WHAT THE FUCK?
The engine was great, and came out just before hl2, gfx, physics everything was great.
The maps to, big and tropic, nothing like it. And the driving part was also fun!
90\100 game for sure!

Blah.
Great engine or not (and that is debatable - because whilst it technically may be, viscerally it's style is a subjective one. I personally disliked the plastic and washed out ambience) the real reason I'd keep a game on my hard-drive is gameplay.
Farcry was just like any other run of the mill shooter. Boring. If you're a casual gamer you might like to waste your time on things like that but I personally want to play something with a little more substance.
The engine here in the screenshots above looks amazing. The lighting in particular. But graphics do not make games and invariably the teams that create the 'best' engines fail to do anything constructive with them.
Besides, the team behind the UT engine is the best. It's scalable to practically all hardware and furthermore looks and moves amazingly regardless.

Well I rather had HL2 in the source way or the 4*4 pixel way... Farcry ran surpringsly well on a Geforce MX440 with a steady FPS. Which is quite an accomplish.
The gameplay in Far Cry was fun and not a second boring, I loved how to sneak up on my enemy and just waste 'em all.
