|
 |
OK I have about had enough of Starforce. I cannot get SF games to run on my system at all. It is driving me nuts!
I have tried out King Kong and Worms 4 so far. I cannot get either to work. I hear King Kong was a short game but I wanted to try b4 I buy... And see if it is really as cool as the reviews say.
Needless to say I have failed on all attempts. My results in Worms 4 are much the same.
I have installed it with only a SATA Hard drive attached and used DT 4 emulation on and off
I tried a ATA card with my IDE DVD
I tried to put the IDE DVD on the board and use SF Nightmare
I have gone out and purchased a Plextor SATA dvd drive and eliminated all IDE devices
I have tried all of these configs using SF Nightmare also "NODE - CD - NODE"
I also went into the bios and turned everything except the SATA to NONE
I tried so many things I cannot remember!
Still cannot get it to work. It tells me that the Key doesn't match the disk. In talking with a friend who runs his SF games with his SATA Hard drive and his SATA plextor dvd that all work fine and he seems to feel that my issue might be Bios related. I was going to take pics of my BIOS but that would take forever so I dug up the link to the manual....
took me 2 tries to get it to come up
http://america.giga-byte.com/MotherBoard/FileList/Manual/manual_k8n51gmf9_e.pdf
If the link is not allowed and gets removed then go to giga-byte website and look up the manual for K8N51GMF-9 and tell me what you think. I have wasted over 30 hours trying to get this to work and spent way more money than I should have. Please let me in on any suggestions you have.
Thanks in advance!

You know I told my friend that. Now it is a matter of letting some silly program beat me! NO WAY! So back to the question....

I will check when I get home but there were penguins on the box (like that means a lot!) I have since completely removed the ATA card and installed a SATA DVD drive.

Well see that is what I am saying.... I was hoping someone would be able to check my bios listing and tell me if there is something they can see that I should turn off.....
BTW: I am really not a Denzel fan (he uses movies to soapbox a little too much) but I liked him in Man of Fire and I do quote that line a lot!

I took a look at your manual and I noticed that you have onboard graphics. Another thing that is different about your board is the chipset. I can tell you from my experience that MB with onboard graphics are a little bit different from other boards in terms of memory requirements, that is they can be tricky when it comes to choosing the memory, due to the fact that memory is shared between system and graphics. The wrong kind of memory and you can't even boot to OS. But this is not your case, I was just telling me what my experience is with these type of boards.
Now, for your SF problem. In my history with this lovely protection, I found out that the "wrong key" error was caused by 3 facts:
1. The image you are trying to run from is not a proper one. So make sure you don't use some home made image, ore other's home made image, just proper scene releases.
2. The emulation doesn't work. Even if you are running a valid release, you have to emulate it properly. Even if you are using DT4, maybe it doesn't work on your system. I suggest you try out SFCure and Alcohol 120. I use this method and never had any problems.
3. The key is wrong indeed. This happened to me only once, with a release from itwins, the key that came with the nfo just didn't work. I had to google for another one that worked. It's unlikely in your case, that all the keys are wrong.
If you don't get the error "insert the disc into another drive", then you don't need to worry about IDE drives and stuff like unplugging.
Your BIOS is not that different from other ones, appart the onboard graphics it looks just a regular nForce4 board BIOS. Btw, make sure you keep it up to date, it will save some trouble.

Do I need to completely uninstall the game everytime I try to load it? I notice that it likes to store your key.

If you need to change the key, just press shift at the beginning of the disk check, it will let you enter a new one and then it will verify that one and that one alone.
Installing windows just for adding a drive? I've switched video cards and didn't reinstall windows 'cause of that. Windows is capable of having multiple drivers stored in its memory, it will only load the ones that match the hardware you got at boot. You don't go reinstalling windows every time you add a new memory bank or a new HDD drive.
As I've said before, if you don't get the "insert the disk into another drive" error, you need not to worry about IDE drives and unplugging them. This error shows up only when you have optical drives that are seen by the protection. The error you got is image/emulation related.

Have you got DT4 set to only one virtual device?

Maybe you just have bad images? If it's getting to the 'wrong key' phase (i.e. not the 'please insert disk' phase), then it's picking up the right drive, just not verifying properly. Also, SF DVD games will not run from burned DVDs, only from images.
