- In its recent quarterly earnings, French publisher Ubisoft announced today Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Double Agent was delayed five months, from March to September 2006.

That sucks.

Good, even though I want the game now it's good that for whatever reason they decided to push the date forward and work on the game a little more. I'd rather have a late, but finished game so. Good!

That's a very patient and controlled reaction to the delay, sadly I only feel bad Sad

This is nothing new. Ubisoft is known for always announcing releasedates for games 4-6 months to early and then pushing them back. "Oh! Here is this new great game! It will be done in 4 months" 2-3 weeks later "Upps! Forgot to mention that we will not make that 4 month mark. We need to "polish" the gameplay a bit before its ready" My ass...stop announcing games to early you sacks of shit!

If it will use SF 3.7 (and it will probably do), than this hole is already patched, as far as I know. There has been a lot of talk 2-3 months ago when SF 3.7 came out and people found out that it patches the original USB system drivers with SF ones that allow the protection to read properly from USB devices. The big fuss was that the original drivers are Microsoft's property, and SF just gets away with messing them. But the release date is far away, there can be lots of things happening 'till then.

True, some games deserve to be bought, but there are people who earn 100$/month. How can you expect them to buy a 50$ game? Don't be so quick to judge, not everybody leeches just for the sake of it, some do it out of necessity.

So, if you know this by your own experience, why do you dislike people like that so much? It's not like Ubi will go out of bussiness if the sales in say... Eastern Europe, Russia don't go as planned. The publishers' policy always has been selling high price games to a relative small number of people. Instead of that they could just drop prices to 20-30$ tops and sell to a larger number. I think many would buy a Splinter Cell game priced at 25$ at launch, I know I would. Instead, I just waited 'till it was possible to play SF games. Instead of earning 25$, Ubi lost 50$ from my point of view. Anyway, I got my copy of SCCT with my video card, hope this will happen with Double Agent too.

Yes, they do. In fact, it's the game of the year for me. I hope Double Agent will be just as good as CT was in terms of graphics, AI and multiple choices. I honestly didn't have much hopes after Pandora Tomorrow, but CT exceeded my expectations. They sure are taking their time with DA, I hope will see smth that is worth the waiting.

So you thought Chaos Theory was better than Pandora Tomorrow?? Imo Pandora Tomorrow was way better. It's the best of the series so far. It had a better story, more realistic AI, better gameplay and better level design with many highlights (which were very scarce in CT). The only thing where CT was better were the graphics.
One part that pissed me off especially in CT was that in the Bathouse level some enemies became uber-soldiers that knew always where you are and could kill you in one second (but they could take 8 hits and still live). I'm talking about the section between Shetland's meeting and your "meeting" with Shetland. This part was very frustrating and unrealistic. The AI was so poor and fake, not human-like at all. The war level in Seoul with the flying shooting drones ripped from Metal Gear Solid was also stupid.
I'm glad they are trying something different with Double Agent now because I don't really need another CT. Double Agent reminds me a bit of 24.
What did you like more in CT?

Nightvision.
Splinter Cell's GFX is nice but there aren't really much to see. It's always too dark or you are with your NV. Why couldn't they just make a game with less shadows and some more hi-tech, with gadgets sneaking around and some other cool aspects. More climbing and no weapons at all. It would rock like the first one did.

BURN SC CT, BURN!!!!!

at least in sc1 there was some bright levels where nv is not required & thats why i liked
in sc2 character animation was a bit crapy but still it was decent game
sc3 was so damn scripted that i felt like recreating some hollywood movie scene, thats where it laked mainly
i hope that sc4 will be something realy new otherwise it's just another milking session

In terms of AI, CT is the most challenging of them all imo. Pandora was just to easy. Not to mention that it was very linear. Took me under a day to finish it. Had to replay it setting the goal not to kill anyone so it could be more chalenging. To give you just an example of how AI is better in CT : when you turn of lights, it gets the enemy on the move, either shoot the lights or just turn them of, someone will notice it and come and investigate. This way, either you divert enemies from your posiion or they are coming for you. In Pandora, you could shoot the hell out of the lights, no one carred.
Scripting, hmm, if CT is scripted, then it must have a lot of scripts, 'cause everytime I reload a save game, things would go different from that point, enemies took different paths. If you look closely at a game, and play it too many times, maybe it becomes scripted at a certain point.
My point is that CT was far more challenging than Pandora was, and given the multiple paths that exist, the game can be played 2-3 times more, on harder levels and with self- imposed goals like killing/harming as fewer people as posible. The beauty of this game is not in archieving the goals and completing the mission, but the way you do it. And one can spend many ours playing this game looking for the most elegant way to complete a mission.
I've seen two trailers from DA, and I must say I'm intrigued. Seems that Fisher will step into the light for a change. I can help wondering if this change won't make the game look more like Hitman, walking between enemies with empty hands, etc. Stepping out of the shadows and becoming a double agent means he'll have to lose his outfit somehow.

challenging u say?i usually shot them in the ass after they spot me cause they were runing for cover & took me 5 bullets in chest to kill them but 1 bullet for them to do me so i'd say it's rather cheating not challenging, not to mension that if i shot one of them & changed my position while the other stood back to me he knew exactly where i am & shot me in the head in pitch black without nv & it happend more than once

Actually, all three SC games have been fantastic. I can't pin point the best one, Ive enjoyed them all equally much and i like the Ive played them all differently, in the first one, i shot a lot of guards, in PT i shot a lot of lights and in CT i didn't shoot much at all

Especially fucked up was the situation where you were in pitch black while raining about 100 meters away from enemy and you shot him with your pistol which was silenced and still he knows where you are and kills you with 3 or 4 shots....That was lame.
