I am sure everybody has played Doom3 here( I didnt like it). but I want to know how many of you have played the DOOM original version and what were your experiences?

I used to play it with one of my friends. Since it was the first game in full 3d ( I mean according to the standards then, it was great) . I used to handle the movement and my friend used to fire using Ctrl key. Ahh.. those were some days...really.... Crying or Very sad

but now.. all i see is games demanding more and more hardware and most of them are not even worth playing....

I still remember when I played that level where there are lots of walls and those pink huge monsters start showing up...i swear i must have crapped my pants at least once..ROFL.....it was real scary.

I bow my head to a legendary game...lol Smile

Oh Lord, give me patience, and GIVE IT TO ME NOW!

If you really want to play Doom , look at the Legacy mod for it.

Info can be found here

I played Doom when it came out.

I played wolf3d when it came out.

My first 'multiplayer' game was hooking Doom up with Serial cables.

I played Doom (and all the other stuff) but I didn't really like it. For my taste the first person shooters in that time period were not evolved enough in their gameplay, level design, controls and graphics. They were only boring labyrinths where everything looked the same and you had to search for stupid keys again and again.

Oh, boy, I used to play doom all the time. And We also had Catacombs of Abyss and since we were using Dos at the time my dad renamed it so all I had to do was type in cat and it would open. You had this glove that shot fireballs! I used to play Wolf3d too but I didn't like it as much. My favourite game that I played when I was little would have to be Dr. Riptide, you were a submarine and you shot fish.

i sometime get that feeling and install it again and play through the first two or three levels and let it be as it really does suck in comparison to newer games.
as for Wolfenstein 3D, i would have loved if id had included a windows-playable version with RTCW, as i cant get my old files to run on my pc anymore. Anyone got a solution for that?

What i also love to try from time to time, is playing mods of old fps classics for new games, like the original doom mod for doom3 or the opengl version of duke nukem. That reminds me, is there such a remake for the original blood around somewhere?

DOOM was fun to play (still remember some of the tunes from it), even did a bit of mapping for it. However, as many already pointed out, it was Wolfenstein which started it.

And DOOM was not in full 3d, was the topic creator thought.

I realised Doom wasn't so great the moment i played Duke3d for the first time. Quake was really boring too compared to the Duke, so this thread should really be about the Duke! And yes, Wolfenstein was way before Doom.

this is what I started with:

This, wolf3d, and tetris. Had to go across town to my grandfather's office to play it (was like 6-7 at the time.) Fun times. When I got into doom etc on my 486, it seemed like hot shit.

As for old RPGs, maybe I'm off on the time period (I had a 486 in the pentium/win95 days), but Exile and Exile 2 were both favorites of mine. Duke Nukem (non-3d), Keen (if anyone remembers that game) and DOTT were all favorites.

Well since you don't have enough options there I'm voting for:

[x] Played it but won't play it again because it's a boring pile of shit.

And no, I don't care about eye-candy.
