|
 |
ok, ive read a few posts, well, all of the [NDS] since june last year, and i get the general idea of things, but, before i go out and buy anything new (apart from the DS which i have) what exactly do i need to play backed up roms. Is there a link to a site, or has someone got the time to tell me/pm me. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks for helping a self confessed newbie (to this)
my understandin is this, i need a:
Superpass - which goes into the DS game slot and a DS game goes in to the superpass (think this is for booting)
Supercard - this goes into the GBA slot on the base and you put a SD card in here with the rom in it.
anything else i need to know, or is that it (fingers crossed)

Yes but there are alternatives.
you can use flashme instead of the super pass.
There are other cards such as the M3 (although I personally have a supercard and believe it's superior). There are two versions of the supercard, a CF and an SD. Performance wise they're the same so it's up to you.
Once you have the hardware it's really easy to get working, i've been messin with the nes emulator and moonshell for the last week and it's proving pretty good

great news, thanks for the quick reply, do i take it that the 2 version of the super card just use different memory cards in them?

I'm looking to buy either the Supercard or M3.
From what I've read, most people say that M3 has better compatability and functionality.
@jonels - have they ironed out the saving and compatability probelms with the supercard? and have you had bad experiences with an M3 adapter or are you just going by what you've heard?
anyone?

Supercard compatability with NDS is the best there is at the moment or at least on par with M3. As for saving there is no comparison the Supercard wins hands down.. you save in the game it is saved on the supercard cf/sd memory, no game has save issues on the Supercard. The M3 requires you to do the old SMS routine .. ie get back to the menu (M3 menu not game), select the save file and manually copy the contents from the sram to cf/sd card.. shite. Without doubt the M3 is streets ahead of the Supercard when it comes to GBA games, but I already have EZ2 PS 512Mb card for GBA games, which also does the saves automatically without the the need for the SMS routine.
So Supercard+Proper GBA flash cart > M3 ... and probably cheaper too.
edit .. of course this is my opinion, but it is fact the M3 doesn't support automatic saving, only the SMS kind.
I looked up "gormless" in the dictionary, it said "without gorm" .... so i looked up "gorm" but it wasn't there ????

as i said.. the supercard is better. Yes it doesnt support amazing GBA emulation but that's something lost but gained in the price. Since I only use my DS for reading books now (waiting for super princess peach and monkey ball to comeout now ) it's still a good and worth the money since i've managed to sample some games that I may have purchased if i had more money.

kind of off topic but do you know anything about modding / redifining moonshell? I'd like to install some character sets because reading some books with accented letters replaced by ?'s is really annyoing at times.

Thanks for the opinions. Think I might go with Supercard then as it is indeed cheaper and easier to get hold of in UK.
One last question if anyone knows. Does it matter what speed SD card I get? I mean can the supercard read at high speed, or is it just as with the PSP where a high speed card makes no difference?
Thanking you

Only draw back to the supercard sd atm is scumm only works with the cf's
I Have no trouble with a budget card here and nds games but gba roms seem to take one hell of a bashing , Even the most basic / best compatible roms have at parts chronic slowdone. Don't know if its due to not being a high speed card though

The supercard ARM is too slow to properly emulate GBA games.
I have a viking 128mb and a sandisk 512mb and they both run fine. Since the loading is only a few mb it's never a long time. A few seconds at most.

GBA roms don't work well on SD supercard because of the ram in the supercard isn't fast enough, unlike the ram found in say a flash cart used for GBA roms which do have faster onboard ram chip. There is talk that they will release a better Supercard with faster ram at some point later, but at the moment the haven't simply due to keeping the prices lower and alot of people have these flash carts anyway to play their GBA roms on

I use an M3 Card with compact flash (1 Gig) and a pass key.
You can buy all this as a kit from many sites.
Mine is almost 100% compatable, at the mo only Mario Kart dosn't work.
Save games work great on the CF and there are about 25 games stored on my card. It's been pretty stable for 4 months.
Recommend clean dumps for games, there are over 300 hundred ROMs out now. you should get the latest firmware and M3 loader too fro the M3 site.
