Would be kind if a logical step i guess, they've done ww2, vietnam and modern warfare. Futuristic combat would be pretty sweet. And that video looks nice

I saw these news 1 or 2 days ago..
All I have to say is that if they make it futuristic / sci-fi, they'll lose many players, including me..
Only reason I play the battlefield games is because they're one of the few games left with normal shit in it, and not all those fucking sci-fi shit..
I hate you.

Well, I think it is pretty unofficial now.
Shacknews Wrote:
Quote: | We’re about to announce something very big, so stay tuned. One other interviewer asked this and I gave him a hint, so it’s only fair that I do the same for you: 3213/3X2. Or said another way: S.R. 4588164. |
Second Shacknews post:
Quote: | In the comments section of today's Battlefield 2: Modern Combat interview here on Shack, readers seem to have figured out what exactly producer Dan Blackstone was talking about when he hinted at the future of the Battlefield franchise with the following answer: "3213/3X2. Or said another way: S.R. 4588164." In hindsight it seems obvious; the first set of numbers comprise mathematical operations equalling 2142. The second phrase indicates the square root of 4588164, which is 2142. Thanks to themelon and kainen1 for figuring out both parts first.
So, Battlefield 2142 it is, then? It looks like DICE's popular online shooter franchise may very well be taking the next logical step, and moving into the future. EA has been contacted for comment, and any response will be added here. |
However, I could not take another replica shooter from DICE pushed out by the EA monkeys.

I would tend to sort a agree on what "Stealth88" said. I am myself a hardcore BF gamer and...well after the decission EA or DICE made to start charging for the "SMALL" addons I am not so shure anymore. I guess the natural progress would be a sci-fi sequel to to BF2. Actualy that movie looks like its using the BF2 engine. I am not realy thrilled personaly though, but what the heck, buissnes is bucks etc etc

Bring on the milky cow!!!
First patch the present games before bringing out (again) a game full of bugs, waiting months and months until a patch is released etc....
No more BF for me.

It would be really awesome, Sci-Fi gaming is really in a sad state currently. Maybe a successful Sci-Fi game will inspire some developers.

I think Sci-Fi is the wrong way to go for Battlefield (as many other of you). It simply is wrong. I hate what EA has done with DiCE. Sure BF1942 was kinda buggy when released too but atleast it has been patched correctly with good patches and the last ones really made it perfect IMO.
Looking at the 1.2 patch for BF2 makes me cry as it gave new bugs to the game (much more serious bugs then ever before in the game), made it unbalanced (AA is too powerful now, its 100% instead of 50-60% as it should be), Support weapons are too damn good, bunny jumping is still there...
Errr back to 2142 atleast... They should postpone the game atleast and finish what they are doing now. Fucking EA money whores bitches...

Don't push all the blame on EA when DICE is not exactly the best developer out there.

Very true but don't you think we would've seen more patches and faster if EA weren't involved? The fact that DiCE barely gets to do any patching is alarming in my ears. They outsouce the patching to some guys who didn't even programmed the fucking game.

I think with the amount of succes/profit the BF series has given, they will pretty much let Dice do everything they want.

I am not so sure about that... its still EA and in my eyes they are interested in nothing else then making money (which of course is the primary goal for any company, but they more then others IMO).
I am suspecting that BF2 was forced for released because I never get the feeling that it is a done game. Still I do enjoy it and play it daily. But I would've not been in tears if they would've delayed it a couple of months...
And releasing that stupid expansion pack before the first real patch to the original was dumb...

DICE are babysitters compared to for instance Epic. What kind of community support has DICE ever done? Nothing.
They don't listen to feedback, they give out half assed patched, they very rarely talk to the community.
They don't know how to make good engines. BF1942 was great, I give them that, but BF2 was just a cheap rehash of 1942 with new graphics and some new models, nothing more. Proves that DICE can't make new original games.

Rarely talk to the community? Ehh sure.. Ever checked totalbf2.com? Interviews all over the place about anything BF2 related.
I think that the patches for BF1942 were kinda good, atleast much better then they are nowadays.

If they really do decide to make such a game, I guarentee they will go out of business. Why in the world would you make a game to compete with Quake Wars? Everyone allready knows for the most part that Quake Wars is going to be a /really/ good BF like game that is based in the future, and with cool new gameplay elements. Why would another company basically make the same thing? Its a sure loss. Sure, people will buy it, because its the next official BF game, but it most likely won't come near the quality of Quake Wars (and originality). And to top it off, Quake Wars is going to come out this year.
Bad move by dice if they decide to make a BF game set in the future. Also, shame on dice for milking a worn out game genre. Battlefield style games are getting really old, really fast. Jesus, make a game with an original idea. BF1942 was good. Vietnam sucked. BF2 is OK, but no where near what 1942 was like. This 'new' BF game will suck, I guarentee it.
Not to mention that blurry screenshot looks exactly like BF2, but with a mech thrown in.

Interviews are not talking to the community. It is selecting a few questions you want to answer over email or otherwise, or just chatting with one single contact.
Besides that, as I already said, DICE don't listen to feedback concerning their game, henec why you get fucked up patches all the time. Heck, BF2 was better as retail than it is now.
