it s a shame, because interactive 3d displays would be cool for the medical system

Well it all just seems so far away, its up to the guys with the cash and if they dont see the potential in the project then there arent no project at all or it might get established but it would take years to fully integrate- and develope it.

Yes but think about how far technology has advanced in 70 years ('our lifetime') We're nearly there. That doesn't mean I think we're going to have 3D holographic displays using the same technique, but i'm sure it will be possible very soon (i.e. less than 20 years)

i m not sure if you re following the 3d-display technology hype, but it s been in the works for years and there is already alot of interest/funding in it, as it just begs to be used for medicine or other industry areas, where you need to zoom in with precision tools and manipulate stuff, like brain-surgery for example
edit: was meant as reply to mutantius...

I dunno, I think you guys are wrong. In the next 25 years, we are going to see some crazy shit. I fully expext to see Minority Report style stuff by 2025 - maybe not the eye recognition thing and stuff, but interactive 3d displays as advertisements, everything is either voice operated or touch screen (or some new way of inputting data into the...cpu, they really gotta get rid of keyboards, i typed a 10 page letter yesterday and man, my wrists fuckin kill).

I don't see how voice activation is better than everything though. Some things are made easier by using hands such as changing the channel on a TV with a remote controll.
As for sore wrists... just get a more ergonomic keyboard!
I'm pretty sure there are some forms of eye recognition systems around. It's just it's kinda pointless to do that when finger print identity is more than enough.

if they alreaddy have demonstrated the first prototype, it will definately not take more than 20 years to finilise it, the japs will probably have it in like 10 years or something like that.

Well voice isnt good for everything, but even through your hands, we need to develop some new input methods.
Like, simpler (I dunno how it could be tho). Ummm...best thing i think that will convey what i mean is u know how they use computers on star trek? like just buttons that are set to do one specific thing if in conjunction with this button etc etc? I dont know how it works to be honest, i dont watch star trek that much, but something like that.
Something new.
I say a combo input device that incorporates the hands, brain, voice and eyes would be awesome.
Like, Imagine playing NFSMW, driving around with your eyes, that'd be crazy...might give u a headache still

omg like holding down shift to get 'sub' letters/symbols?
Think logically You're thinking of say 'press this button to turn the air conditioning down, plug the hoover in and start making food'.

Yeah, smart buttons and stuff u know? Like say in a videogame...u can run up the wall, climb on some next shit, shoot 3 bad guys all by touch a button or atmost 2. Not this bullshit hold the power run button, plus forward, time your jump right, then try to manuver your fingers on the keyboard so u can whip out your gun and aim and shit.
Imagine splinter cell or mgs if it were instinctive...u press one button and the guy dives behind a tree and takes someone out in the process...but without the mad button clicking.
A system like that would work well for The Moment of Silence type games. I really like adventure games but the constant fuckin clicking is annoying. I hate repetitve sounds, especially in videogames.
