So I just borrowed the Star Trek Deep Space 9 DVD Boxsets from my friend, but since I do not want to buy 50 empty Dvds to fit all Seasons I'm gonna make xvids out of it. However I have no idea where to start! I'm already pretty familiar with virtualdubmod which I often use to cut movies and add/remove audio streams. So I'm gonna take this program to encode. What I dont know is how I can get e.g. the first 3 episodes of the S1D1 (1x90min 2x40min) which are all scattered over 4 .Vob files seperated so that I have something to start with!
Objective a) Somehow extract uncompressed streams so that I can further work with em
b) Any filters I should use? Should I encode with divx or xvid? I'd like to fit one 40min ep in ~350-400mb with a quality that comes close to what you get with scene rels. I read some tutorials but they didnt really help me out. And when I last encoded a 90min movie a year ago it looked like a crappy realmedia movie in the wrong 4:3 format - and was 1500mb big. to get each ep out of the vobs, you can use dvddecrypter to rip each (ifo mode)
encode with xvid, get the new build @ http://www.koepi.org/
use two-pass mode when encoding with xvid, that will give you good quallity.

really, you could prolly just download gordianknot/auto gordianknot and it would do the trick for you. you just need to rip the eps in dvddecrypter as it should tell you which is which when using ifo mode.

sorry for the brief reply, if you need more help p.m. me.
