|
 |
I have a PC that starts up as soon as the power cable is connected to the PSU. Nothing appears on the monitor and there are no beeps from the PC either. I have changed the PSU thinking it was most probably dodgy but the same thing occurs! Everything is on board with the exception of a 56k modem and I have removed that but to no avail. I have disconnected the front panel header connectors and I am fast running out of ideas! Anyone know what could be causing this or seen this problem before? I have tried Googling it but I am unable to be specific enough to find produce any decent results. I guess I could try the booting outside the case and probably change the memory. Other than that it must be a defective CPU and/or motherboard.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Yep the first thing I notice is the CPU fan spinning.
Definitely not a PSU issue since I already tried a brand new one on it.
Will check the links thanks.

Just the same happend to me, but only when i was turning on the PC. Happends randomly =\
I don't think my problem is hardware tho, because if it was it wouldn't happen SO randomly as it does for me.

Remove all memory from the board to check if it beeps then. If it doesn't it could be that the board died or it is short-circuited. Check if any loose screws or metal parts are between the board and the backside of the case, although it should turn off power right away if it would be short-circuited.

Ok I have the board outside of the case with nothing whatsoever in it or connected other than a 400W new PSU and the P4 CPU. Memory is out. There are no beeps. I connect a power cable to the PSU, both fan starts and nothing is on screen. It will not POST at all.
Chances are the board is at fault and replacing it will probably fix the problem. I would think its gonna be the board rather than the CPU, at a guess anyway.
I just took the CPU out and tried again. The PSU fires up straight away and Im fairly certain its not supposed to! It must be a defective motherboard.
