Not having much luck recently: I see no one so far can help me with my other monitor issue below Sad ( 7800 GTX and CRT)

Over the last week, when I switch my 19" CTX monitor on the screen becomes blurred (can only describe like a sweeping fogbit like a fog) to a black colour. When I turned off and turned on it was fine.

Everyday it seems to require more times turning on and off before it will operate properly.

This morning was the final straw and I thought I had lost it as it just kept fading to black. After 20 times, however, it is working normally.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Could it be a power supply issue? Is this how TFTs die?

The strange thing is after the turning on/off session, it works properly all day. Question

The only thing you can really do is plug the monitor into another system and see if the problem reoccurs. If that happens, may need to replace.

I don't know what else you could try...sorry.

I would advise not using the PC in the shower Smile

Have you not got a guarantee/warranty on your screen?

I have a wireless PDA for the shower Laughing

I am checking the warranty situation now - although after 2 years approx I doubt it will be covered.

It works fine all day - seems to be only a problem when it has been hibernating or not used for a long time.

Could the screen saver not working damage it?

How do TFTs die? Surely if the screen was dead it would not work fine all day (as it has been)

If its the monitor itself and not another part of your pc causing the problem, the only thing i know that has caused me problems is the fuse, which you can replace apart from that i would say you may have to take it in to be repaired.

If you don't know much about the inner workings of a monitor/tv i wouldn't try and open it yourself, they still retain a high voltage even after its unplugged and easily enough to kill you. You have to discharge it before opening, but simpilist and easiest would be to test on another pc as stated before, if the problem's still there just take it to a repairman

Possibly a bad capacitor in the moniter, or a power regulator IC. Sounds to me like its the monitor, but be safe and test it on another system. Dont attempt to fix it your self. If you do, make sure to discharge it like a previous poster said. And use the hand on your hip meathod incase you get zapped. (Electricity flows in the path of least resistance, so if your one hands on your hip, the zap should bypass your heart. Smile just dont open it)

There are lots of place that can fix it for you. The place i use in canada cost about $50-$70 plus parts. Parts are ushally very cheap though.

Thanks for the comments and advice. No plans to try and fix it myself though!

Well I called up the company to claim under my warranty (thankfully still in place) and the next day I do a swap. Only the gits gave me a faulty monitor. You may wonder how I am sure...

I considered it could be power supplies, cables, fuses etc. or the PC or graphic card. Using my other PC I checked everything. Happily it was just the monitor as it failed on my new PC too..

I call them up and they dont even really apologise and confess they sent me a reconditioned one and that "this should not happen".

On monday I get another swap. Lets hope this does drag on...
