Can anyone suggest a good program for searching through mp3's ive got on my drives...
i'd like something better than xp's search tool...
what i'm really looking for is something i can search by bitrate/type as i need to recode any of my mp3's that are in variable bitrate, as the software i use for digitalmixing has issues with vbr (and my mobile phone aswell)...
i have a massive collection now (100+GB) and it will take forever to check manually
any suggestions will be greatly apprieciated

best solution would be getting a better mixing-software (like traktor) Very Happy
and only recode those songs that you want to upload to your phone
because you'll see a detoriation of quality when you recode your mp3s :/

to separate vbr from cbr you could use foobar ( www.foobar2000.org )
drop your files in the playlist (could take a while if you drop the 100gb at once)
sort the playlist (ctrl+a in the playlist, rightclick->sort->sort by...)
by the attribute %__extrainfo% (this is where the vbr info is stored)
then you can move (or copy) the vbr files to a new location
or directly recode them (dunno if this only works with the beta)

if you want to go the foobar way, say so,
and i'll show how to change the playlist display to show if the file is vbr

i have traktor but much prefer mixmeister pro as it works in a completley different way, one which i prefer as it allow much more accurate mixing Wink traktor would be better if i had turntable controllers but as it stands i like mixmeisters tracker-like operation (reminds me of making tunes back in the amiga days Wink )
i dont tend to recode my mp3's for my phone as i have a 512MB memory card for it and am trying to avoid recoding but on longer tracks or mixes my phone skips very slightly on vbr mp3's or wma's but doesnt on cbr
i will give foobar a try, sounds like what i was looking for, thx Smile
