Don´t let the installer connect to internet, and don´t use the same key-gen. Maybe its a problem with all those. Use RLD-keygen.
It really sounds like the typical EA error.
Sig too big.

I remember this happening with C&C Generals, it usually occurs if you update windows/system files and then try playing? Try uninstalling, restarting then reinstalling.

I had same problem - but after changing CD-Key it fixed. Some CD-Keys have to be banned.

Replace your game.dat with the RLD one.

The problem is the stupid wankers made there own SETUP exe you can tell that
when you run the setup file... so instead of the game asking for the cdkey
it just automaticly installs using the default cdkey that came with the release.
Which is black listed..... now everyone including myself who got the spitfire
release is screwed unless you can change the cdkey correctly

got it to work
no reinstall needed =o]
just change the cdkey in the registry under:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\Electronic Arts\The Battle for Middle-earth II\ergc
got the working key from the deviance keygen
hope this helps

i got it work, by removing that shitty release of spitfire and installing the bc clone version.
it had nothing to do with crack, key, but SETUP.
this unit auto-destroying comes from a protection in the SETUP of the game. so custom setup like spitfire is NO-NO. learnt hard way...

well what worked for me is a combination of fresh clonecd install + deviance generated key.
and i googled and i found that this problem has already been complained about by LEGIT players in some previous EA games, like command&conquer and first bfme.
I found this post on gcw forums concerning bfme:
"
FINALY got some real help from the "EA Support" team.
I was told to run the "autorun", then select "install"... (Even though the game was already installed) after a few seconds, rather than asking for a cd key, or going through any of the setup process, the game simply started up.
Perhaps this forced the game to re-run the "setup.exe" file, spawning a new ".dat" file...? no idea, seemed too simple.
But, for the last hour or so, I've been playing just fine, no "exploding" units, or instant "DEFEAT".
One bit of help I WAS able to squeeeeeze out of the tech guy was that "supposidly" the security check that causes the crash on "burned" copies of the game only takes effect once, in the first 5 min of ACT 1. So, in theory, loading in someones SAVED game, that begins on ACT 2, will bypass this entirely.[blablabla]

a little precision: in the message i quoted, the guy thought that IN THEORY, loading up a gamesave>5 mins of play from a valid installation (like bc lonecd in our case) would bypass the protection.
in my opinion i think it will not be that simple to make it work. first, we deal with a different game so we dont know how far that protection goes. secondly, i think that the setup installs/encrypts/generate stuff that is then checked in the code in-game.
i would then suggest as a definite solution to:
1) remove all the spitfire crap
2) install bc clone
3) generate dev key and use it when asked
4) update the game to 1.1 using official patch
5) avoid using the clone image, and use the 1.1 reloaded crack
this last step is to prevent any call to the setup program when u load the image and *potentially* fireup the protection again.
all the step above, ive experienced it myself and it works 100%.

@hurley
i'm using cloned version without any crack and have no probs with the game so far (i've also noticed that the tutorials aren't working correctly if a black listed key is used)
i prefer using clean clones so i wont have to wait for cracks if a patch is released.

yup thats what i used to do until i noticed that daemon tools couldnt recogize anymore the files of my clone cd image. im glad i kept the rar files and could recreate the image. i really dunno what could happen so what i prefer to do is to use any crack available , and keep the clone for when theres none.
also did anyone try to make MP work through hamachi yet? it seems the game is having a lot of issues with desync/timeouts from what i could see in official forums :/

you can always burn the rars on 2 dvds just in case
and also if those things happen (with explosing building and units dying) that it means there isn't a proper crack made yet for this game
