|
 |
Supposed to open Dec 21st ... an incomplete version was screened in Sept at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Synopsis:
Presented by genre master Quentin Tarantino and taking a much more macabre tone than did Eli Roth's feature debut CABIN FEVER, HOSTEL is an amalgamation of many of the terrifying things about human nature and the world at large, culled from lots of pulpy-but-true stories of international organized crime, human trafficking, and sex tourism. Relentlessly graphic and deeply disturbing, the film is rife with explicit sex and brutal violence that may delight hard core genre fans, and prove difficult to stomach for general audiences.

Quote: | Hostel is sick, twisted, disgusting and absolutely brilliant! This is a horror fan’s horror movie. Whatever your tastes are in the genre, this movie delivers .... The torture scenes are also gory as hell. Wes Craven once said that in order to fear the film, you have to fear the filmmaker. This definitely applies to Roth, who is not afraid to show graphic, disturbing images and enough blood and appendages to satisfy any gore-hound. |
Quote: | But what everyone is dying to know is it really as disgusting, brutal and violent as we're being led to believe? First off, I'll be shocked if the MPAA doesn't slap this with an NC-17 rating (I pray they don't). Second off Hostel is truly special because it's not the gore that makes it good, it's the suspense. I'm so sick of directors saying "throw in more blood and focus in on the ripped off head- now that's going to make this movie good," because that's NOT TRUE. A film needs to be taken to Dead Alive levels to even get us to remotely care about gore at this point in our Grand Theft Auto-filled lives. Eli not only gives us some shocking and gruesome moments but he takes the time to step back and make the movie suspenseful and involving. At times I found myself (along with numerous others) screaming at the screen and jolting to the side in disgust |
From the director's mouth:
Quote: | "I wanted to sneak in another down and dirty ultra-violent horror film, one that would be very different from 'Cabin Fever,' both in tone and scale. This film is going to be much, much scarier and more complex. I wanted to make a Takashi Miike-style horror film, like 'Audition.'" |
IMDb user reviews
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0450278/usercomments
Quote: | "If you want to see a horror movie that doesn't look away, that stays in the room long after every other movie has squirmed to some other reassuring shot- then you need to watch this movie." |
Quote: | "Make no mistake about it, this is a violent, sick, and gory flick. It's not for the squeamish. I haven't seen this type of extreme violence in a North America mainstream cinema. The Takashi Miike, and Asian Cinema influences are clearly seen here." |
Quote: | "The torture scenes are realistic and horrible. You cannot help but feel the pain of the victims, and this is where the film truly excels. For a few moments of nightmarish intimacy, you are made to empathize deeply with a stranger. Much like the closing scenes of Audition, you care about the victims and want their pain to simply STOP." |
-----------------------------
Sounds like this could be a nice little treat before Christmas. Hopefully it does get released with an NC-17 rating, but with the recent success of SawII at the box office, I highly doubt it.

sounds like passion of the christ times a hundred!
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year, running over the same old ground. What have we found? The same old fears. Wish you were here.

Faces of Death is better, I bet...
About Hitman: Movie (2007)
Vin Diesel is a hardcore gamer, and absolutely loves the Hitman series. For that reason I have faith that he wont destroy the movie.
Response: Well, Uwe Boll probably loved the Alone in the Dark games.

I think when gore becomes realisitc it's no longer fun to watch.

Yeah, i totally i agree....once its too realistic, it sucks....I bought this movie one time, from some cult/horror shop along yonge st, and fuck, i got 10 mins into it and i had to turn it off...cant remember the name of the movie, but im sure its snuff, or a really good interpretation of snuff...either way, it was WAY to demented and shit, threw it out...I dont like watching shit like that....If i wanna see shit like that, I can always watch video's shot by indy journalist's in Iraq...nuff horror stories and things that will break ur heart
Anyway, the movie still looks interesting, Im prolly end up watching it

LOL I forgot about this thread. Little did I know that there would be actually a ton of nudity ion this film. Too bad it was the only thing helping this movie.

NoLimits release is a VHS Screener so the quality isn't good, but PTs release is very watchable and the LLG release looks like it has the same source as the PT release.
