Fabrice Cambournet announced in this thread that Ubisoft will not use the Starforce copy protection software for Heroes of Might and Magic V, the sequel developed by Nival Interactive and expected to hit the store shelves this May. We remind you that a playable demo will be released tomorrow.

An alternative copy protection software will be implemented

Well the beta is kind of nice, you get a clear picture of what the game will handle like. Thank god they decided to go for the Homm3 hero-system and not the Homm4.

I think it sucks, it like warcraft 3 without the realtime. The thing that made heroes so special is gone. I hate the rotate view. Sad

It's your card then, because the graphics are vastly better than HOMM4.

I've played every HOMM game extensively, and I think 3 will probably always be the best one, although 4 is pretty close. Time (and the full version) will tell where 5 stacks up compared to the others.

Anyway, I've only had about an hour to play it so far, but the game seems to live up to the expectations I had of a HOMM game done by Nival--I'm a huge Silent Storm fan. I don't really agree that it's "war3 without the realtime" (it's really not *that* different from HOMM3 or 4, so far) but even if it was that would be ok with me, because the reason I despise RTS games is because of the realtime part. IMO the only real "strategy" games are turn-based.

I loved Silent Storm (and Etherlords) too. I completely agree with Palegod. Nival proved they know how to make good strategy games, not some real-time crapola.

What a retared fucking installer. You can't even choose WHERE you want the files unpacked, it automatically unpacks it to C:. I use C for my operating system and nothing else, and I don't have the 1.2 or 1.4 GB of free space that I would need to install the demo, nor do I want to install or unpack it there.

Fucking retards who can't write a decent installer. This is a game I won't buy, that's for sure, and I usually buy the HOMM games.

Well it's an archive so you can unpack it and get to the real installer.
