|
 |
I'm about to buy a new system. Here are the specs:
CPU - AMD 64 3800 Dual Core
MOBO - DFI Infinity NF4 SLI nForce 4
RAM - Corsair 2x1024MB 3200 CAS3
GFX CARD - EVGA e-Geforce 7900GT CO PCK 256MB
1) Should I change to a Dual core Intel?
3) Is this mobo better than Gigabyte's?
2) Should I get a better (way more expansive) GFX card, or maybe stick with this one, and when I can afford it, buy another for the SLI?
3) AMD doesn't support DDR2. Any big difference between DDR and DDR2?
Thanks in advance.

I understand but a few months are too long for me. See, my brother's computer exploded (yes I'm not kidding) and I provided him with a lame P3 500MHz for the time being. Now I must buy a new rig ASAP so he can have my old one. The question is, should I really wait because the changes will be this dramatic and utilized to their full potential right from the beginning? Or maybe the rig above is sufficient and will last for 2 good years?

See, the current dual-core gear is first gen, so it hasnt really... "filled in" technology wise.. by that i mean it still has a way to go. If your that desperate you should look at AMD for gaming, the DDR2 probably wont be that big a deal.. personally I would go for a crossfire setup too, but I think everyone has seperate opinions with few facts on the GFX race at the moment.. maybe someone else can give you further advice.
I am certain though, that with the comming of the newer chips we will see some big changes.. Dual-Core wont simply be 2xnotsogreatchips we will see some real performance differences..

Less than 3 I think. Summertime release probably.
they're gonna work from the off straight away because that's what they're designed to do, but imo if you're looking for a PC now it's not really worth such a wait, unless you're looking at lowering the costs of the system.
I had the same problem last year. Either buy now or wait. I just decided fuck it and bought the stuff. Not let me down since so I don't know what the problem is.
Now with the two companies releasing one thing after another, there's rarely a huge break in time before the next thing is released from either group, so just take your pick. You can always sell and upgrade (for a bit extra £$£$) in a few months if that's what you really want, and u just pay w/e money u've 'lost' on time with ur new PC :/ but everyday you waste waitin / decidin is pushin up the cost i.e. £200 for 70 days, or £200 for 40

Right well I just spoke to my bro who's now workin for acer not shuttle and he said that the new AMD's will be out next month but they're nowt special just has DDR2 support and a new socket (i think). And the intel core's are going to be kick arse and come out in Q3. He said the one's that came out at the start of this year for laptops are pushing onto an FX-60 anyway.
Looks like intel will rule once again.

Still the new AMD socket 941 CPU's are going to be cheaper compared to their counterparts. The new socket is pure compatibility project. Anyway im personally going for the new line of AMD.

That's just it. There will be no counter-parts. The intel duo is far cheaper than an FX-60 at the moment too.
The new socket seems like a waste, but intel uses some chip shit, so even though it's the same socket it won't work in all mobo's (or somethin like that). Bringing out a new socket seems pointless to me, especially since 939 has only just come out.
To put it simply the new AMD's will be the same as they are now, with DDR2 which will make it slightly faster. The intel duo's already support DDR2 and are cheaper and on par (or very slightly under) than those out at the moment.
In 6 months the new intel's will kill AMD and they'll be left lagging behind.

Sublime was partly reffering to Conroe DarkReizo. This is the cpu that after a beta test and not in its final build, managed to beat an overclocked FX60 AMD! And the price is not $300 but ~$500
